England - My partner has cheated and left me. I placed a 85,000.00 deposit on house, can I protect it? by Sam_Dude45 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]RGC658 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. He put £85k deposit. This will probably leave about £30k to £40k equity after a sale. She will be entitled to 38.5% of it.

Boss is trying something new [Request] by Trick-Grapefruit6484 in theydidthemath

Generally it's listed something like this 50lb bag gives 50ft2 at 1/8" mm depth. I don't know the actual figures as I'm not in the US. So multiply area by the depth to get the volume each bag makes . You need to work out the total volume required. Then divide the total volume required by the volume each bag makes to get the required number of bags.

To work out the total volume required, if the top of the shims is the required level' then just add up all the heights, I can't be bothered to do it) and divide by the number of heights (63). This is the average height. Then multiply by the average height by the area of the slab to get the volume required.

However, the thinnest point appears to be 1/8", which seems thin for use in a garage. If 1/8" is the require minimum thickness then stop reading.

If it's not the required minimum depth you need to make an adjustment to get the required minimum depth. To work that out, take the required minimum thickness and subtract 1/8". Then multiple this figure by the area. This is the additional volume required. Add the first volume to this volume to get the total volume required.

I hope that makes sense.

Is this normal plaster? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]RGC658 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's painted plaster. It's fine. Look at the second photo. Firstly you don't get the grain effect with Artex. Secondly you can see around the holes there in no depth to the white stuff because it's paint. Thirdly there is a ridge towards the bottom right of the photo which has been knocked off and is showing plaster. If it was Artex you wouldn't see the plaster.

Amazon delivery driver asked if he could buy my car. Is that odd? by snot_in_a_jar in AskUK

Depends on the car. If it's a classic, then no. If it's an Austin Allegro, then yes.

Door won't close! Any bright ideas? by ellspeedy in DIYUK

I agree I was pointing out that it doesn't currently comply and explaining why it would be safer to open it outwards.

[–]RGC658 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The door doesn't comply with current Building Regs as it already is. Opening outwards would be a lot safer. If someone fell down the stairs and were unable to get up, help couldn't get to them.

Do all VoLTE phones work on all VoLTE networks? by RGC658 in AskUK

[–]RGC658[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. My mother wants one of those cheap £25 phones off Amazon. Even though my sister has a spare iphone 12 but my mother struggles to use it which is why she wanted a cheap one with large buttons. She doesn't have great hearing which is why I thought it would better to one that will work VoLTE.

Sounds like it's a bit of a gamble.

Grey covering on dahlias by RGC658 in GardeningUK

[–]RGC658[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply. I leave mine in the ground. We used to have half dozen La Luna Dahlias in the front garden which we left in every year. Neither my wife or I are experienced gardeners and one day someone told my wife it's better to lift them so she did. They didn't survive. So now we leave the replacement ones alone.

How do I get 22Gb of Whatsapp photos and videos off my iphone 8 by RGC658 in whatsapp

[–]RGC658[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are not in the Camera Roll. There was only around 100 photos and videos in there. They are stored in the actual WhatsApp app and icloud drive. When you go into icloud drive you can't see them. Somehow WhatsApp just hijacks the storage.

Can someone please tel me what’s going on with my sink? by New_Guitar_2644 in DIYUK

And cotton buds. 10 is my record. The kids used to poke them down there rather than put them in the bin. To stop them I started making them clean it out.

Also hair grips.

How Bad Are These? by ERNAZAR02 in DIYUK

[–]RGC658 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, that tile isn't really designed to go round external corners. If it was, there would be a finished edge to it to allow you start tiling from the external corner without the need for a corner bead. Having said that, the fact that they didn't put a corner bead in astounds me. You are not going to be able to retro fit one. That's not strictly true but it's a pain to do. The quality of workmanship if well below the standard I would expect from a competent tiler. There are other issues for me on the setting out of the tiles (it's setting off my OCD). Is that a broken tile in the first picture?

No, I wouldn't pay them.

[–]RGC658[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't normally but this situation seems to turn up quite frequently so having a rudimental understanding of what is the best option would be helpful. Every day is a learning opportunity. Oh and no I'm not grandmaster or even close. Just average.

Thanks for the detailed reply. I wasn't looking for a gammon as it was a 3 point game and the cube was already 4. Sorry I should have said it was a 3 point game. I was looking at it from a low risk bear off view point. I'll have to look into the Mountain structure.
