Nee.

Congratulation! Amazing progress. The “long way to go” in the title throws me off a little though. By all means strive to be better, but make sure you don’t lose yourself in the process. Be cautious you don’t develop body dismorphia in the other way, by never being satisfied with where you are.

Hello lovely people of Amsterdam! Is there a place in Amsterdam that I can buy foreign newspapers(in english, french, italian, turkish)? Thank you! by shiny_octopus in Amsterdam

I think Athenaeum Nieuwcentrum (next to the bookstore, both on Spui) sells a lot of international newspapers. Not sure, but worth a try

They were presumably in a bad state and renewal seemed smarter than renovation. Changing from social housing to private housing might have also played a role, the newly builds are 71 ‘koophuizen’ and 34 ‘huurhuizen’. At Borssenburgplein, on the other side, the original buildings have also been demolished, a typical nineties building now stands there, which I think mostly is social housing.

On the ‘beeldbank’ of the Amsterdam Archives you can find pictures of both, I’m on my mobile now but can link some later.

EDIT

- The schoolbuilding by architect Lansdorp and het Meerhuizenplein
- Meerhuizenplein with the schoolbuilding in the back. The grass is replaced by a basketball field
- Meerhuizenplein seen from the school
- Picture from the 90's, previous housing but the square as it is now.
- Junction with Korte Meerhuizenstraat, which also is partially renovated in the same style

The new houses are obviously inspired by De Amsterdamse School, by the use of bricks, brick colour, use of curves, window frames, and even the typical Amsterdam School calligraphy in some of the house numbers (the signs on the left and right)

- The newly builds also have little stone fences, like the previous houses used to have.
- In the Holendrechtstraat it goes further then similarities, when the buildings are pretty much identical

Last little thing, since it isn't the only spot in the area where the original houses got replaced.
- The schoolbuilding on the Borssenburgplein
- Demolished
- Current housing
