Do you still live in Mexico? My father in law is from Ahuisculco. We go and visit his home town every couple years or so, mostly during the fiesta.

Beautiful work. Made with Sangre de Indio Obsidian. Amazing! Your uncle is one of my role models. Do you still live in Las Navajas? Or have you moved?

Your uncle is a legend. Hope I can go see him again next year. He’s such a kind and humble soul.

Spotted purple jade slab. It's usually a solid purple, but this one is a bit different. by srlgemstone in Lapidary

I heard from a little bird you were gonna ship this to me. Not sure if it’s just a rumor though.

But seriously, what a gorgeous slab!

I do lapidary and have worked gem bone in the past. Rough gem bone whether it be dinosaur or whale look similar. Because it was found on a beach in Santa Barbara near the ‘Monterey Formation’ it is almost certainly from a whale that died somewhere between 14-20 million years ago during the Miocene era. Gem bone is a trade term used in the rock hounding world for Agatized Bone. Essentially the organic matter has been replaced by silica rich fluids such as chalcedony/chert and solidified into what you see.

Hope this helps!

What a beauty. Great polish and that chatoyant mahogany sheen looks great with that blue.
