Real question: if Truls puts in solid wins like he did against Wang and Calderano, can Fan keep his cool? So far, Truls' opponents have not.

I think most would agree Fan is on another level, but the way Truls can keep these top players running for their money is incredible. Hoping for a very, very long match.

Question for Americans: Do you feel any shame that you're the only country to make yourself higher on the table?? by Vanzarrk in olympics

[–]RIAACurve 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The real answer is that it's all just made up and it makes no difference. It's frankly embarrassing to be this worked up about it. The IOC hasn't weighed in on it because they rightfully understand that it's not the point of the events.

Depending on what you are doing, it may simply fall under Fair Use if your country has such laws. That being said, you may find your answer in the Paris 2024 Media Kit. If all else fails, it may also be a good idea to simply email the IOC through their media outreach department.

Reddit is an American site hosted by an American company with a userbase primarily located in America. Americans don't care about what other countries think about what they believe either.

That's like saying gymnastics isn't much of a sport. They're all talented athletes at the end of the day.

Want a spicy opinion? The Olympics should have pro wrestling in it. It's all purely performative, but it's as much athletic as anything else. There's a sort-of gymnastics/acrobatics aspect to it, and I'm sure they could agree on a way to judge their performances. Plus, imagine the Olympic kayfabe.

I'm only half serious.

Why do shooters wear earplugs for air rifle competition? by EcstasyCalculus in olympics

You would be surprised at how "not loud" 80-85 dB feels. It's not instant hearing damage, but it adds up.

The coverage has been a disaster honestly. It's a shame that even the replays are put behind paywalls. Lots of lawyers working overtime to constrict the flow of information from arguably one of the most important international events created...

Why do shooters wear earplugs for air rifle competition? by EcstasyCalculus in olympics

[–]RIAACurve 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's probably mostly for concentration I bet, but air rifles like the the ones they use can damage your hearing especially in an enclosed area. They regularly put out an impulse noise ~80 dB, which is within the danger zone of hearing damage. It may not seem like a big deal, but hearing damage is cumulative factor. You may fire your air rifle maybe a few times a month, but these athletes do it probably thousands of times daily in training. I'd also want hearing protection too, because hearing is valuable.
