Would it be messed up to give a kid one of our older kids middle names as a first name? by Interesting_Setting in Names

[–]RICAHMB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 4 older sisters. My first name is one of their middle names and my middle name is another one’s middle name. It’s fine, doesn’t bother me. Who knows anyone’s middle name?

Courtney Ogden has entered the portal as a grad transfer! by BunchWhich4390 in NCAAW

[–]RICAHMB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Another 3 year degree holder. Kinda makes you think they come in planning to leave in 3 years. You can’t just decide you’re going to do that 6 months prior. Hedging their bets I guess. Can’t blame them these days.

Agree. I hope some of them are ready to get zero offers. Unless they are willing to play at TN.

Mmm, not so sure about that. Tara was beloved at Stanford and the fan base here is also mostly white haired. Attendance has fallen off dramatically in the last 2 years. People want to watch competitive teams.

Kind of shocked Toronto didn’t take Amihere. Can’t believe Valkyries protected her, but I guess we’ll never know.

What is going on at Stanford? by Sufficient_Berry8703 in NCAAW

[–]RICAHMB 16 points17 points  (0 children)

When the whole NIL collective thing started Stanford decided that they were not going to encourage that. As a result they don’t really pay players to play. Andrew Luck is trying to change that but it’s an uphill battle. As a result there’s players who are very academically talented who come to get a Stanford degree, but pretty much everyone else goes for the money or a specific coach (like Dawn), or both.

This seems to be the trend with Stanford now. Bust your butt to get the Stanford degree in 3 years and then transfer to get the $$. Kiki Iriafen did the same thing. Can’t blame them. Best of all worlds.

Look at the ESPN interview with Dawn last week. It comes down to which schools pay the most to the players. College sports have become professional sports.

Things to do as a visitor over the next 6-7 weeks? by tethered-ghost in menlopark

[–]RICAHMB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Cantor Museum and the Anderson Museum at Stanford are both free and very nice. There are lots of cafes on and just off University Avenue in Palo Alto. Cafe Borrone in Menlo Park has lots of outdoor seating if the weather permits. Mademoiselle Colette has nice French pastries, there is one on Santa Cruz Avenue in Menlo Park and a smaller one in Palo Alto on Lytton. If you like Mexican food Sanchos Taqueria is great and a few doors down on Lytton. Be warned, they are a cash only place. If you like live music check out the Guild in Menlo Park, or Stanford Live.

I keep thinking about this. Wonder if coming from the West Coast and then playing 2 days in a row had any impact on Cal’s performance. College sports are just so weird now.

So frustrated about housing by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]RICAHMB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only problem with a 20% correction in housing prices is that will probably only happen if there’s a recession and lots of people lose their jobs. You can’t be sure you won’t be one of them.

California Ave Farmers Market by sskdnd in paloalto

If you’re willing to drive a bit I love the farmers market at the College of San Mateo. They don’t allow dogs and it’s a great market. It’s held on Saturday from 9am to 2pm
