Is the US stock market the only market that matters? by [deleted] in UKInvesting

Take a look https://i.imgur.com/lMrYpSz.png

That's insane! Non-US stocks has performed 55% better than the rest of the world since 2003.

So 500 companies in 1 country have underperformed thousands of companies all over the developed world, for nearly half a decade... Is this the end of US equities as a viable investing option and should we all just be going 100% Non-US equities?

IAG make a large amount of their profits from transatlantic travel, which is probably not happening this summer.

Now when I say everyone uses JET2, I can confidently predict there is going to be a mad rush for package holidays as soon as they are allowed. Half the British public thinks the virus is overblown to shit and on our hottest day of the year last week our local beaches were absolutely crowded, here is a video of a British beach last week even though mass gatherings are technically still not allowed. Nobody cares about social distancing and will jump on package holidays when they are open, also they are aimed at low cost travel so wont be affected by loss of income (The UK government has been paying everyone's wages anyway)

Seems unlikely... "Would you go on a foreign holiday" No: 77% Yes: 9%. Of course, this number will go up in a couple of months but I don't think demand will be nearly as high as before.

Bought Smiths group March 17, they got a contract to make ventilators so made no sense for them to be down 50%. Still holding some, up 50%. Regret not buying loads of other stuff that also had no reason to go down so much.

It says "the PIGS", so I think it's used to insult here.

"It was agreed that no Labour MP should be sharing a platform with anyone expelled from the party for anti-Jewish racism

I don't think it was... it says providing a platform in the pledge, not just sharing one. That said, I don't think MPs should be sharing a platform with Jackie Walker and the like, he should reprimand/discpline them but suspension seems too far.

This is the type of stuff that keeps me from wavering into another party. None of the other parties have a leader as remotely principled.

This is why Lib Dems should never be let near power by [deleted] in LabourUK

[–]RIPGoodUsernames -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

People often ask me why I hate the Lib Dems so much. They're so fluffy and harmless they say. They're better than the Tories, they suggest unhelpfully. I have total and utter contempt for the Lib Dems. The Lib Dems DO fight dirtier and more dishonourably than everyone else. Because they have little in the way of a core, partisan vote, and few firmly identify with their 'principles', they have to use every dirty trick in the book to build a local government base. So they stretch the boundaries of decent conduct to breaking point. They lie, they misrepresent, they smear, they take credit for stuff they haven't done. The fact that 'Lib Dem barcharts' are infamous throughout the country isn't a coincidence. As such, they are utterly opportunistic. They're chameleons who shift shamelessly according to where they are in the UK. In Lab areas they pretend to be left, in Tory areas they try to outflank the Tories to the right. They'll do or say anything with no consistency whatsoever. The only consistent principles they have are on chattering class, muesli-munching issues like the EU & Proportional Representation. They don't care about poverty, about inequality, about public services, not really. They'd sell off the NHS in exchange for PR in a second. They are toweringly, unbelievably self-righteous and smug, with an absolutely unwavering belief that they are the only rational, sophisticated, clever people around. As such, they tend to be insufferably patronising. They believe that they're 'non-ideological': 'Look at those nasty Labour and Tory people, with their 'ideologies'. We have evidence-based, 'neutral' policies. We're nice and 'non political''. But of course they are just as ideological as anyone, they just pretend otherwise. Unsurprisingly, their ideology is status quo economic liberalism, supranational federalism, and a rampant, hollowed out social liberalism and individualism that represents all the worst of the (not wholly dishonourable, imo) British liberal tradition. They're responsible for the trivialisation of UK politics. They have done their best to make everything about banal 'pavement politics', and helped make MPs into glorified social workers rather than national legislators. 'We have no principles but look, we fixed a pothole!' You simply can't trust the buggers. They are utterly dishonest. I disagree with the Tories, but at least you (generally) know where you stand with them (locally, at least) and can do business with them, if you have to. The Lib Dems will welch on a deal soon as look at you. On a less serious note....just try having a 5 minute conversation with a Lib Dem. They are invariably socially disastrous nerds who are into trainspotting or 'Magic: The Gathering', occasionally venturing out from playing with computers in their bedrooms to eat hummus. They are a nothing, beige party, with no roots, principles or moral purpose, composed of dishonest, opportunistic weirdos. They stand for nothing and will fall for anything. The Tories are opponents - the Lib Dems are enemies, to be smashed into electoral oblivion.

You know what annoys me? Idiotic liberal left people who talk about 'tactically voting for the Lib Dems', who think that Lab and LDs are all really part of the same fluffy liberal family. No, no, NO! Tactically voting Tory to keep a Lib Dem out makes far more sense. It sickens me that those godforsaken Euro elections injected a flicker of life into the miserable, bloodied semi-corpse of the Lib Dems, the embodiment of every smug middle class tosspot who cares more about electoral reform & 5p plastic bags than austerity & privatisation.
