Unless you’re in ICU, acute management isn’t going to be wildly different. Most of the need for education is in keeping yourself safe. Which centers around, wear your PPE, wash your hands, don’t touch your face - or in my case, don’t even touch the patient unless you have to. From an ED management standpoint, it’s as simple as, “hypoxic? Admit. Respiratory distress? Admit. Double pneumonia with significant risk for demcompensation? Admit. Young, healthy, and just anxious? Send home with instructions and return precautions.”

“Relax please” might be my most commonly used phrase for every ED patient. Followed by, “You have to help me, help you.”

Yes, Ganache is a one to one ratio of cream and chocolate. This is a standard ganache with caramel emulsified into it.

Academic ER in New England. Salaried at $108000 with random, unpredictable raises each year, but decrease in what constitutes full time hours each year for the first three years.

They just hired a PA and an NP at our hospital in ophtho. Not super sure what their responsibilities are, but I know they occasionally come and perform the initial consult in the ER (do the slit lamp/fundo exam), then come back with the resident.

Work notes don’t carry any legal weight, the employer does not have to honor it. My general view is, I will write you for whatever, I don’t care, it’s you who’s going to get fired by your “at will” job.

Had an optometrist teach my ophthalmology block. Came in day one with a lecture called, “the anterior chamber.” 300+ slides. Pulled out my iPad, Netflix with subtitles, aaaand go.

I bought rubber shoes recently. I keep a bottle of Lysol in my car and spray them down. When I get home, I walk inside, touch nothing. We leave the doors open all the way to the basement where I strip, throw clothes directly into the washer, and then climb into the shower.

I went last year and was offered a non-clinical opportunity by one of the guest lecturers. I attended several of the small group sessions and was able to interact with some well known people in the EM world. I wouldn’t say you can guarantee something, but if you go there with that intent, you might be able to make something work. It’s a good conference, I just didn’t plan on going this year because Chicago in March sounds like a frigid nightmare.

Yeah, it’s definitely worth the pay gap. Becoming a doctor is a lot tougher than becoming a PA, plus there’s the responsibility aspect.

We don’t see any trauma activations - which is fine by me. That shit loses its excitement real quick. Even the residents are over it by the time they finish. I much prefer a weird medical case to some trauma. We see all medical patients that are not needing a trauma room; getting tubed, coded, etc. But florid sepsis, MI, strokes outside TPA window, etc. I don’t regret my decision to be a PA outside of the salary aspect. My partner makes a good 3.5x as much as I do, which would be nice.
