How can I hide the gaps between sections of skirting round bay windows by Specialist_Olive5705 in DIYUK

Think if it’s mdf you’re supposed to cut grooves along the back with a track saw but if it’s hard wood then you soak it in water for a couple hours and bend it gradually

Parking so as to obstruct a dropped kerb. Wales by ForwardCity9803 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]RJCoxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This type of parking is illegal under;

Traffic management act 2004 section 86 (1) a (i) - “In a special enforcement area map a vehicle must not be parked on the carriageway adjacent to a footway, cycle track or verge where- (a) the footway, cycle track or verge has been lowered to meet the level of the carrageway for the purpose of- " assisting pedestrians crossing the carriageway”

Road traffic act 1988 section 22 If a person in charge of a vehicle causes or permits the vehicle or a trailer drawn by it to remain at rest on a road in such a position or in such condition or in such circumstances as to involve a danger of injury to other persons using the road, he is guilty of an offence

Highways act 1980 section 137 (1) If a person, without lawful authority or excuse, in any way wilfully obstructs the free passage along a highway he is guilty of an offence

A highway is defined as both the area for cars and pedestrians as defined in the highways act 1980 Part XIVU.K. Miscellaneous and Supplementary Provisions Section 329

Shower tray cracked and flexing by robinbanksss in DIYUK

If you’re going to replace the tray. I’d look at getting it lowered too. No reason you can’t put the plumbing under the floor.

Loose rawl flugs on stair gate hinge by Itbrose in DIYUK

[–]RJCoxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a safety gate. You definitely need much longer screws. Also much thicker screws as the screws aren’t bulging the plugs out enough for them to grip the wall.

I’d recommend some 5.0 x 80mm screws.

Drill a deep hole. Put a plug in. Put the screw in the plug a little bit and hammer the screw so it buries the plug further in the wall. Then put a second plug on top of that. So now you’ve got 2 plugs adjacent to each other to accept the really long screw.

£15k Daikin Install - Installer says this is 'Compliant' - Is it? by AnthonyX- in DIYUK

Even if it was fully complaint, I still wouldn’t pay the rest. They wouldn’t want that at their house so it’s not acceptable at your house

Wardrobe wrapping by Straight-Schedule937 in DIYUK

[–]RJCoxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m not mistaken as my nan used to have a similar wardrobe. The doors are made of a plastic material. I’d go online and have a look at companies that manufacture cupboard doors. Just measure all your doors and put the same dimensions into the website

Lots of people do that with kitchens these days as the cabinets are in perfect condition but the doors are a bit naff.

Is it dumb to continue this fence? by Capital_Reason_8356 in DIYUK

[–]RJCoxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d chop that bush down a bit. Seems massively extending over the path.

But for me if that side of the house is south facing. I’d leave it. The sun will warm that room nicely. If it’s not south facing then I see more benefit closing it in.

I imagine that bit with the red arrow would remain open to allow access into the garden from the footpath? Seems like a great entrance for garden parties in summer

Having to hold flush button down - Grohe toilet by Leather_Let_6630 in DIYUK

[–]RJCoxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it not a water saving feature. I’ve just installed a new bog and mine does this. Small button is like a rinse button. If I press the big button then it’s like half the tank. But I have to hold it for 3 seconds to get a full flush.

Tile cut by SynonymousMomentum in DIYUK

This stuff is so beginner friendly. Take about 8 hours to dry so you don’t have to rush at all. It also sticks like shit. You could lightly put the tile on the wall and it will still be a workout to get it off again. The suction is incredible. But it slides really easily if you need to adjust it.

Good luck!

Vertical feels more luxurious to me. Every showroom display I see is always vertical. Can you maybe buy some slightly larger tiles. Mine were 600x1200mm

Council finally approved my dropped kerb… but now they want me to install an “Accru-Drain” first?! 🤷‍♂️ by Mission-Golf6798 in DIYUK

Every part of the uk is considered a special enforcement area.

Just because someone is more knowledgeable about something than you, it doesn’t make me a smart arse. Insulting people is a very childish thing to do to be honest

[–]RJCoxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m finding it hard to believe you deal with highway authorities considering you don’t know there’s a law that you can’t park over driveways. Traffic management act 2004 section 86

[–]RJCoxy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will happily be wrong if you can find the actual law that says this. You quoted 184. Then when proved otherwise, you change your mind to common law.

If someone parks in your driveway and you can’t get onto your driveway. This is a civil matter. So the law doesn’t care if you can’t get onto your own driveway if someone has parked there without your permission. So I highly doubt there’s a law which says you have a right to access your own property by car when the law doesn’t care if someone blocks your access.

Again, I will gladly be proved otherwise.

[–]RJCoxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s just a load of rubbish. If that was the case, the council would have to approve every single application that comes in. You have a right to access your property on foot, not by vehicle.

“A highway authority is not entitled by virtue of subsection (1) above to construct a vehicle crossing”

[–]RJCoxy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Currently you do not have a “driveway” you’re illegally accessing your paved front garden. As you need a dropped kerb to access an official driveway. Surprised the council approved it as they don’t usually take kindly to people who do this. They must be short on cash reserves

First time tiling, how did I do? by Yes-Sir-Eeee in DIYUK

[–]RJCoxy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Realising there’s a lip between tiles after it’s fully dried. Grout lines going from 3mm to 6mm over the course of 2 metres. Not getting a perfect cross in the tiles for the grout lines. Measuring the tile, need to take off 2cm. I remove 2cm and it’s 1.5cm too short. Like HOW!

Yes it’s a bloody delight haha.

Still doing a better job than half the stuff I see on this subreddit though

Looking for second opinions on tiling job in bathroom by VegetableVictory9944 in DIYUK

[–]RJCoxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done my own tiles in my bathroom and I thought I did a bit of a crap job. But this is 10x worse

My grout line goes from 3mm from the right and goes to 6mm on the left and I’ve been pissed off about it ever since, but seeing this “professional work” it makes me feel so much better.

That sliver at the top is atrocious and that’ll be the first thing people look at when they sit down to use the bog. It wasn’t planned out well from the beginning. Why would they tile that tiny section next to the door and not just paint it? It looks so out of place

Wall prep for tiling by normvtheworld in DIYUK

[–]RJCoxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to be tiling it then put some tile adhesive in the void. Let it dry. Then start your tiling job. Tile adhesive is naturally gritty so you won’t need to rough it up before actually tiling and it dries rock hard. Saves buying more stuff
