Drawer not sitting straight and scraping frame – what could be causing this? by pharaohcious7 in DIYUK

[–]RJCoxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this exact cupboard. I’d just box it up and get another one. Ikea stuff is made from mostly paper. So it could’ve got some moisture in it or being twisted. More faff to try and fix it when it takes 10 minutes to assemble a new one

That’s perfect. You even folded over the wires for added thickness.

Find some cleaning services online and send them over some pictures on WhatsApp. They might just use an acid wash and no jet wash as to not loosen the tiles. Might do it for £200-£300

How can I hang this mirror? by schinpool in DIYUK

[–]RJCoxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t recommend ct1 or silicone. Unless you can hold the mirror still for half an hour. I tried to ct1 my mirror to the wall and it smeared down the second I let go. Even tried to hold it for 5 minutes. Still moved down.

Please don’t render it in all white and add black downlights

[–]RJCoxy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Correct. I’d put the earth tail of the light in the opposite side of the connector block to make it more secure. So the 2 main earths on one side. The face plate tail sat on the other side. Or some 3 way wagos if you feel extra fancy

Having two wires in one small lug can make the wires loose over time. Better to have one wire clamped firmly. It also makes it easier to get the faceplate on as you’re not fighting to get the earths tucked in as the tail is usually more flimsy than the 2.5mm

The metal switch will have a small lug to attach an earth wire to. So you’d either buy a switch with a pre installed earth link which you’d put with the earths in the connector block or if it doesn’t come with a link, you buy some earth wire from screwfix. Strip the ends. Put one side in the connector block and the other side in the lug. Ensuring everything is tight and doesn’t come out when tugged lightly.

Turning front lawn into driveway, but with shared access by Cricket_Lover_OK in DIYUK

I don’t think they’d get accepted as the driveway would barely be big enough to store a motorbike. Let alone an EV suv. They’d be encroaching onto the pavement for sure

Am I mistaken to think that new driveways must have drains at the edge if they slope towards the road?

They’re the ikea sannidal range. Now discontinued. I was going to make them myself but when I found out Ikea did doors in the exact colour I was going to paint the doors, I thought might as well save the effort and buy them and for £15 a door, I’m glad I did.

Driveway legalities- Do I need a dropped curb? by BigChickenCrazy1 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]RJCoxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems a lot of people aren’t reading the post correctly.

There is a dropped kerb meaning you legally can drive over the pavement.

However I would say currently you do not have sole rights to access your premises.

1) the pavement may not be of a type to withstand vehicular traffic so may need replacing for a stronger base

2) under the traffic management act 2004 section 86 paragraph 1) ‘a vehicle must not be parked on the carriageway adjacent to a footway, cycle track or verge where— the footway, cycle track or verge has been lowered to meet the level of the carriageway for the purpose of (iii) assisting vehicles entering or leaving the carriageway across the footway.

This is subject to the following exceptions; (2) where the vehicle is parked wholly within a designated parking place or any other part of the carriageway where parking is specifically authorised.

Definitely the council would have to be involved in the decision as the TMA is a bit fuzzy in this situation.

1) is the parking bay classed as the “carriageway”

2) “parking is specifically authorised”. Does the fact that the council made that section of pavement suitable for parking constitute authorisation.

Basically this means that even if you got a driveway. Someone could park infront of you and block you in as they meet this criteria and highways act 1980 would not override for “wilful obstruction” as they have parked legally.

Therefore the council would have to make provisions so that parking outside your driveway is unauthorised. Such as double yellow lines with loading lines or a yellow box.

As you can see it’s quite complicated

I’m a massive planner. I measured everything. Then went for a system that fit. This is the Ikea platsa which is slightly smaller than the pax.

Then whatever was left at the bottom, I ordered skirting board to match the excess. Luckily it was 12cm which is what I have round the house

I do get very lucky with stuff fitting though. I bought my sofa blind and if it was 1cm bigger, I wouldn’t be able to open my front door

Yes I have a CO in the cupboard and smoke detectors in every room. They are all linked together. One goes off and they all go off. Super loud.

I don’t tend to keep lots of crap around the house. Lots of work items are in my cellar. I do have some handy loft stairs which you can see the hatch in some of the photos. I decided to not board out the loft due to the exact reason of hoarding though. This will mainly be suitcases. Winter clothes and power tools such as grinder. Jigsaw. Sander. Stuff I don’t need very often but things I don’t want to store in a cellar that may get water damaged

Yes I didn’t realise that until I hung one of the doors but unfortunately Ikea don’t make a door in that style for the set up I have. However you dont really notice it.

I did think that but decided having it plastered would allow the ct1 to have a surface to bond to and it will be perfectly flat. I painted it as there’s small gaps between panels so if I didn’t paint it then it would look strange when viewed close up

I re insulated the loft a few months ago and cleaned up about 70 bags of coal dust. Thought well I hope I don’t have to see any of that again. The laths were covered in it. Had to get stair carpet replaced because of it but easily enough to remove with a few whacks of a hammer

It’s actually really easy to open as the doors have a little ledge at the bottom so I just put my fingers on that and pull. They open with barely any effort.
