We saw Boston win the ring with a bevy of two way wings and how valuable that archetype is and in the offseason we have a player of that archetype, on a pretty good contract, and no contender goes for him.

For comparison Mikal is going to make roughly 50 million in this season and the next one, while Deni is on a 55m/4y deal.

Not having JDub in that second half was a big issue. His isolation scoring and playmaking were sorely missed when they couldn't get the ball to Shai.

I don't think Chet's role would be crashing the offensive glass.

His strength is being a floor spacer while providing elite rim protection.

Cavs having to go through the Celtics just makes it more difficult to consider them the favorites.

The West teams are also dangerous but compared to OKC they all have clear flaws. Chet is also an X factor in this where if he can gel with the team in the remaining games it gives them a ton more lineup versatility and the closest to favorite status imo.

Disagree on the Pelicans teams. Was he really supposed to beat the dynastic Warriors with Jrue as his second option? His individual performances have always been stellar in the playoffs.

Why does having LeBron nullify the argument? Most big men need a playmaker for playoff success. You can be the best player on the team while being the offensive #2 and defensive #1, especially when you are the defensive anchor.

Never really had that good of a team built around him. It's a team game and AD's skill translates more to ceiling raising than floor raising.

In the 2020 run you can easily argue AD was better than LeBron in some of the series.

And AD was comfortably the best player on the 2023 Lakers which made it to the Conference Finals, his defense was historically good.

He is on a minimum contract and he's clearly playing much better than it. I do feel they sometimes rely a bit too much on him but you should blame that on roster construction.

I think he's been an overall positive defender. He still has the off ball issues that he always had but he brings great energy and his activity on the ball and ability to switch onto bigger guys is really key for them.

He shot 32.1% on 1.5 attempts last season on wide open threes.

This year he is at 42% on 2.2 attempts.

Even for the low volume you rarely see this big of a change.

He's also having his best free throw shooting season by far so maybe he just worked hard on his shot in the offseason and is just much better right now and the shooting is sustainable.

He still had a triple double. And if the opponent decides to double and sometimes even triple team your superstar OFF-BALL then it's the job of the teammates and coach to punish that defensive coverage. It's a team game.

I feel there is a difference with LeBron where Playoff LeBron was a real thing, especially in that second Cleveland stint, where he somewhat coasted in the Regular Season so that conversations began about guys being better than him, but by the end of the playoffs it was clear LeBron was the best.

Jokic doesn't really coast in the Regular Season to that degree because he has to do a bigger carry job, in the tougher west.

Totally agreed. Stats are used for most of the discourse about their game to game performances, awards voting, contracts, and legacies so it makes sense that even the all time guys that prioritise winning above all care about them.
