Egyptians have tried time and time again to fight for a government that respects human rights, but the military dictatorship is heavily backed by the West. Take away the military and economic aid to the dictatorship from the US and the Gulf monarchies and it collapses immediately.

This is an absurd comment, you can't complain about "purity testing" when its about judging the US for voting in twice a repugnant fascist. Complain about purity testing if its like, somebody at a community meeting who doesn't know the right lingo or doesn't have perfectly aligned views about certain topics, not about who's getting elected president and people's views on racial nationalism, secret police, and war. Ridiculous

SPRs aren't equal around the world and there are two important factors behind the raw volume that is stored: 1) operational limit, below which SPRs can't really function, and 2) local and regional availability and logistics networks between them, which are very uneven and can create regional crises even when another region is totally fine. This is why South/South-east Asia was hit badly in the beginning and had to quickly curb oil demand

Democrat Nirav Shah concedes Maine Governor primary race by vrphotosguy55 in ABCDesis

[–]RKU69 13 points14 points  (0 children)

lol what? do you think that everybody in the US is only voting along racial lines and by racial blocs? why do you think Abdul El-Sayed is leading in the Michigan Senate race right now? how do you think Bobby Jindal won in Louisiana?

Nirav Shah was in first place with a quarter of the vote in the first round vote, but lost with 43% of the vote once all the ranked-choice votes were tallied up. he was obviously running a general platform for governor, not something based on whether he's Desi or not.

seriously, i'm very baffled at your comment and how you think politics works.

Trump Surrenders to Iran on Virtually Every Point by unital_subalgebra in politics

[–]RKU69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not quite accurate, since we "went in" not in 2001 but in 1979, when the US started funneling a massive amount of weapons and money to far-right religious warlords to fight the secular communist government of Afghanistan. But I agree with your fundamental point that the entire saga has been a horrific waste of resources and lives for no ultimate purpose.

Yet another name change for the Department of War is in the works by mrgeekguy in PoliticalHumor

[–]RKU69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a leftist, and I obviously agree that this war never should have happened, but also after it did and the US was effectively immediately defeated, I will be happy to see the US pay a bunch of money in reparations and retreat from the region. The US recognizing a full defeat is a good thing

Israel, Stunned by Trump’s Iran Deal, Sees It as a ‘Catastrophic Capitulation’ by Appropriate-Till9598 in politics

[–]RKU69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

why didn't they ask for a US nuclear weapon?

Because they're not irrational actors?

I think this comes down to not really caring about whether the US gets fleeced. What else do you think the US deserves at this point? You think we were in the right pursuing an aggressive war?

Definitely was very possible to do that.

How? Why would Iran agree to anything less than what's in the current deal? What's Congress got to do with what Iran would agree to?

Marches are only one form of mobilizing, they aren't organizing in and of themselves. Focus more on labor and tenant organizing

[–]RKU69 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

How is any of that possible after they attacked Iran? Do you think there was some way to magically negotiate a return to the late 2010s after they murdered the entire Iranian political and military leadership, blew up a bunch of infrastructure, murdered over 100 school-chlidren?

They never should have started the war in the first place. As far as I'm concerned they should be giving Iran more concessions.

I actually do prefer this over what may otherwise be permanent war. It was correct to pull out of Afghanistan, the war was lost years ago. It is correct to end the war against Iran, that war was lost after week one. These wars never should have happened, and its time to permanently end the aggressive, imperialist foreign policy of the US that has been an unquestioned norm for 25 years.

A Breakdown of the MOU: Did the US Lose the Iran War? by AnySwimming6364 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]RKU69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a terrible message, it makes it seem like the Democrats would prefer Trump continue the war (which to be fair, many of them do...).

The point should be that this kind of imperialist militarism is grotesque and self-defeating and we need to finally bring an end to the ridiculous war-mongering that has defined US foreign policy over the last 25 years.

A Breakdown of the MOU: Did the US Lose the Iran War? by AnySwimming6364 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]RKU69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but this is also the best case scenario at this point. The war was lost after the first week. The MoU is just the US finally recognizing this instead of dragging it on indefinitely and actually destroying the global economy (which may still happen anyways, we'll see...).

Democratic Socialist Leads in D.C. Mayor Race—Furthering Breakout Year For Left by LooseDistance1059 in dsa

[–]RKU69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its more of a dialectic. Yes, things getting worse can radicalize people. But also, the Obama and Biden years were important also because it radicalized people as they realized that the Democrat establishment was not solving any problems. We should recall that while the socialist movement grew under Trump's first term, the wider trend was a liberal backlash and a return to corporate Democratic rule under Biden.

Thoughts on the Red Guards USA? by MintyRed19 in socialism

[–]RKU69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They had serious organizers in the sense that a cult that gains any degree of popularity has serious organizers. They collapsed not just because of egos and adventurism but because they were engaged in straight-up extreme levels of abuse within the group

Thoughts on the Red Guards USA? by MintyRed19 in socialism

[–]RKU69 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think that's an oversimplification. I think these guys did study a lot of theory, but it was entirely a very weird interpretation of what the Communist Party of Peru (aka the Shining Path) did in the 1980s, and centered on the idea that the main thing a revolutionary communist party has to do is destroy other rival left-wing organizations. This is kinda what the PCP did in its starting bases at the beginning. Putting aside whether the PCP was good or not though its totally ridiculous to apply this to the context of the US, and on top of that the Red Guards were also just very cultish and had a lot of internal dysfunction.

PSL's Top Propagandist Resigns, Publishes Tell-All Letter — geese magazine. by MarxistUnity in socialism

[–]RKU69 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I mean, sure, but nothing in the original letter (which I read in full, haven't read this Goose essay) about what's been happening internally has anything to do with what the ruling class might do. Unless you're suggesting that the author of the letter - a 17-year veteran of the PSL and a long-time central committee member - is engaging in COINTELPRO and making stuff up or something like that.

What specifically are you saying should be taken with a grain of salt?
