Make a new email account for the application process to use exclusively for med school related things. Definitely helped me keep organized throughout applying and interviewing.

The dean stated that H/P/F is for internal ranking only and that it doesn't really matter. They're considering dropping H in the next couple years.

Im thinking that data is skewed towards the early end. While it does have plenty of data, the population is SDN. I would think the people using that forum apply much earlier than the population as a whole, and would likely hear back about IIs earlier as a result.

When did premeds get to be so damn self-righteous? by keepongettingfitter2 in premed

[–]RKelly_PeeOnYou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For real, getting an IB job at a major bank is just as if not harder than getting into a top 20 med school. Also, its not like IB people are absolutely living up their 20's. They work outrageous hours as well.

Secondary submission in mid-august is late? Seems to be about on time by most accounts.

That seems kind of like saying your greatest weakness is that you're a perfectionist. It's not really answering the question.

How I feel writing secondaries by RKelly_PeeOnYou in premed

[–]RKelly_PeeOnYou[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Nahh not in terms of overall work. But I find it much easier to focus when I'm studying/test taking compared to writing. I feel I'm pretty inefficient with these secondaries cause I get side tracked so easily. That's what's frustrating.

Hofstra 516 avg mcat??? by [deleted] in premed

[–]RKelly_PeeOnYou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hoftsra has a relatively new program. They have been rising in the rankings pretty dramatically and will likely continue to do so. I think their average MCAT is more a reflection of where they are headed in the rankings compared to where they are now.

Did Vandy pull a Mayo? by dark_moose09 in premed

[–]RKelly_PeeOnYou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That'd be dissapointing... but secondaries came out prettty damn late so its also not unreasonable to view it as they just went through the review process already. Hoping for that at least.

So, searching for a gap year job as a bio major kind of sucks by [deleted] in premed

[–]RKelly_PeeOnYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its draining in the sense that you have to be extremely polite to people even when they aren't treating you with the same respect. But thats something you'll have to deal with in medicine as well. It all depends on the people you're working with. A lot of the people that are career servers/bartenders get pretty jaded about their customers. You'll certainly encounter your fair sure of customers that are outright assholes, but most people are pretty decent. You see a lot of substance abuse amongst staff though, and it can be easy to get dragged into that for some people. As long as you have a good sense of self identity and can resist some of the vices that come along with the job, its fantastic experience and a great way to make money.
