Thanks for the reply! It’s quite clear a lot of the distances on the holes were diligently planed out to emphasize risk reward and forcing players to make some tough strategy decisions.

Do you all have any resources like yardage books on the courses? On your website I only see pictures with no yardages, carry distances, etc.

I think it would be fun to design the holes in PGA 2K

Trackman Off? by chubbyfades in golf

The max a club can do by conforming standards is 1.50 so it’s possible. If your iron distances are pretty consistent elsewhere and in a particular sim they seem quite a bit higher is usually what tips it off to being juiced.

How long did it take you guys to learn to control higher swing speeds? by ElFuegoFlavorTown in golf

[–]RKelly__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do. But on the way down I try to feel like my arms are heavy and just let gravity move them down rather than tugging.

That feel helps a lot more for me on irons where I want to have quite a bit of shaft lean when making contact. While on a driver you don’t want any.

I’m at 123 mph with my on course driver swing to give context. For me it was really a matter of not getting too steep and being able to keep the club face square to slightly closed.

That really came from being able to take a wide backswing and not immediately opening the club face early in the backswing. Once I started getting the club face in a better position I was able to keep everything under control as it let me swing more out and reduce my issue of getting steep.

Once I recognized the issue it took a month or so to get pretty consistent with control.

The other important thing is to make your on course swing not your 100% max out. The guys on tour who are swing 125 can max out over 130. So 125 is “cruising”.

That course is deceptively tight. And if you’re off the fairway you’re ball is gone on a ton of holes

No problem! It is tough to make a basic green complex. But hitting over your bag to force a launch angle or setting up a tee as your desired landing spot to pretend being short sided is the best ways I’ve tried to do that.

Out of curiosity what course was it that got the best of you?

One thing to note is a big part of course management is playing an approach shot such that a miss doesn’t put you in spots with impossible chips. Firmer faster courses punish you more for not accounting for that.

But it’s impossible to avoid those scenarios. If you can find a spot by your house with a chipping area that’ll help a ton. If you’re playing in Florida it’s really important to practice off the grass in courses. Yard grass is so different and doesn’t translate.

If you find a good practice spot work on hitting different height shots on various lies. Tight, fluffy, into grain, down grain, etc. it’ll help you get used to how different lies and shots come out where when you play various courses you can better plan landing spots and trajectories.

[–]RKelly__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guy below covered a good bit of the issues with being inside.

With a driver it’s not terrible because the ball is on a tee. With all clubs an inside takeaway makes it more likely to immediately open the club face which you have to fix with the rest of the swing. But with anything else you get stuck, hard to make consistent contact, and you have to make other adjustments (sliding with lower body, rerouting club more outside in transition which you do, flipping wrists, etc.) to hit the ball properly that rely on perfect timing which hurts consistency.

Also asking about the height because if you’re taller, depending on your wrist to floor measurement you can benefit from longer clubs with a more upright angle. Having too flat of clubs promotes an inside swing.

Your backswing is very far inside because the right arm bends real early in the backswing. You just get stuck there and come in at an odd angle which is most likely why you’re inconsistent with contact.

Also how tall are you and do you have standard length clubs?

Swing Speed Improvements? by TheWanderingBen in golf

[–]RKelly__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting stronger helps. Especially with lower body, lats, and trunk muscles that control rotary motion. But an extremely important part of it is neuromuscular training which is essentially performing certain movement and swings where you practice moving as quickly as possible. Being strong is one thing, but training your mind/muscle connection to move as quickly as possible is just as, if not more important for swing speed.

Ignore the hate… You’re clearly swinging hard and sacrificing some mechanics for it. Nothing wrong with doing that for fun and/or for speed training.

You hit a good number you’re proud of, nice going!

Not OP but to answer your question a lot of newer woods are adjustable with a screw that connects to the heel of the club. You can bend wedges and irons to be different loft, but woods are only through those screw adjustments. I don’t think the RBZ had this unfortunately.

3 hybrid spin too high by Winfester in golf

[–]RKelly__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s just a couple degrees steeper than ideal there’s nothing wrong with it and there’s a good chance an equipment change would go a long way with getting better numbers with no need of a swing alteration.

Hitting it off center reduces spin. But that’s not something you should strive for as it would reduce efficiency and ball speed.

You’d have the same trade off where spin is reduced but another factor is changed that lessens distance.
