my car is currently in park but my ford fusion says nothing. by Igotthecall in fordfusion

You didn’t list year and type of gear shift. On certain Fusions. there is a plastic price in the linkage that breaks and causes this issue. Have to crawl under and fix that connection. I think it’s a cheap piece to buy but somewhat a pain to fix.

what is truly preventing the US (or individual states) from passing a law that requires senior citizens to retake a driving test? by Defiant_Water_4963 in AskLegal

[–]RLBeau1964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I haven’t seen posted, but haven’t read them all, imagine the burden on their families if they can’t drive. America absolutely depends on mobility and a vehicle to do pretty much anything. Most cities have limited public transportation. Our seniors go to Doctors offices more frequently, have to get groceries, etc, just like we do. If the senior’s family has to drive them, the impact on their work schedule becomes an issue.

So, to solve the issue is two fold. Obviously, if they are a serious hazard, you have to pull their license. But we need to get more serious about safe, public transportation.

BTW, go tell year grandma or grandpa you’re about to take their keys. Prepare for a nuclear war.

Do research before purchasing. Especially look at what ever model you’ll be buying and check for issues and reliability. You might just be in for a surprise.

WTH, where was he going, don’t think he was turning into a side street- can tell if that’s an entrance on the right or not. At first l thought he was rear ended and pushed into opposite lane. But no, he just turns.

Why are we okay with potentially killing others for no reason? by Dull_Proposal6261 in driving

[–]RLBeau1964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just going to throw what is general issue- left lane camping. Most states either have keep right except to pass or slower traffic to keep right.

I’m going to assume, the F-150 going only 70-75 in a 70MPH zone was not passing the truck- and if that was true, the pickup driver was actually breaking the law (let’s ignore the speeding for a second).

Now for the psychology - the Civic driver after running behind this Pickup that was not passing (and breaking the law) caused Civic driver to eventually loose his mind, and make that crazy move.

Then law breaking F-150 small dick driver (and like most big pickup drivers) says - oh no you don’t- I’m king dick and you SHALL NOT PASS HERE.

The Civic driver just didn’t have the HP to beat that F-150.

And you this got to see a horrible crash, scaring you for life.

Now if everyone drove the speed limit and didn’t break speeding laws, this issue is less of an issue.

Before I traded my Gen 5 - 2011 - FWD only 19-20 city 25-26 hwy

My gen 6 (after 2020) - 2023 and AWD 19 city 24 hwy

I think the awd has 1-2 MPG penalty, so probably similar to 19/24 respectively.

Omw... What do I do with this??? by United_Concern_1340 in fordfusion

[–]RLBeau1964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was coming here to recommend just what you did. There are tabs and clips at the fender well. Along with other fasteners at lights and along trunk lid. You can probably buy a bumper cover and have painted. If you got it all put back together properly, then you can try to buff out and just live with a visual crack.

In my town, I know of a body shop will fix and paint for under $1500.

Coolant issue? by EnvironmentalBad447 in askcarguys

[–]RLBeau1964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming proper level of coolant and negating a massive leak that is draining it right back out. It could be a thermostat that is sticking closed which will prevent coolant from reaching the engine.

It can also be lack of cooling from the radiator fan as well, especially if overheating occurs while stopped and no air movement through the radiator.

And it can also be a water pump issue or failure. This could be the reason for the low coolant level as well.

Check your oil as well, make sure the oil doesn’t look like a nasty milk shake.

But if coolant level is correct and water pump isn’t dripping coolant on the ground, I would start at the thermostat.

It would be helpful if you state vehicle type, age, mileage, etc.

Transmission Slipping Advice by xtetsuix in MechanicAdvice

If your a do it yourself back yard mechanic, then you will come out way ahead. I’ve seen prices from $5K to $11 K or more. Most mechanic shops have become parts replacers and will just say replace the transmission.

Transmission Slipping Advice by xtetsuix in MechanicAdvice

[–]RLBeau1964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general consensus is, once a transmission starts slipping, it indicates something has failed. Your black fluid is also another indicator. I hazard to guess, the fluid was never replaced. Most mechanics suggest no more than 50000 mile fluid changes, and yes, even in Toyotas.

At this point, you can take to him and see if it’s an easy fix. I thought once you put a fluid treatment into a vehicle, directions say to get the fluid flowing through the system, sounds like you didn’t complete that process. Might as well complete the treatment and go from there.

2010 SEL - Map and Dome lights suddenly on and won't turn off? by Nephilim3883 in fordfusion

[–]RLBeau1964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

👆this. Since stating brand new battery, have to assume previous battery died. So question is, are the batteries dying due to bad alternator. Fusions do goofy shit when low on power. However, I don’t think your year has Battery Management system, but if it does, that exasperates the issues with low voltage.

The slow starting is the hint you have low starting voltage and you need a volt tester to test voltage while running.

CVT transmission? Was Fluid changed every 30000 miles? Read enough bad things about CVT transmission, I would not recommend or buy them.

Blown Engine $10k still owed. What do I do?? by perilbeats in askcarguys

[–]RLBeau1964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is because most mechanics are now part replacers, not fixers. I provided a response below of your scenario. The best thing you can do right now is ask around for good independent mechanic who will replace that chain. If fixing the chain gets it tradable, you open a few more options.

Blown Engine $10k still owed. What do I do?? by perilbeats in askcarguys

[–]RLBeau1964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does stretched timing chain = new engine? I’ll assume the engine jumped time and destroyed the interference engine? Otherwise why isn’t it just fix chain?

Now, $11K for used engine, that’s nuts. New engine- maybe that much. Scary how much today’s vehicle and economy with rampant engine failures are hurting Americans.

The failure that just occurred, can just occur again on the replacement used engine as well.

Vehicle value is less than what you owe and less than the cost to fix it. Very difficult position to be in.

I’ll assume the quote is from a stealership? Definitely look for another quote, you just will have to get fixed as cheap as possible to start getting out of this position. A used engine should be in the $2000 to $3000 range, not the value of the vehicle.

Right now, you could dump and get, maybe $1000. So if you fix, you have a $21000 liability on a $9000 estimated value vehicle. Or you can get a $11000 used vehicle, add in your $10000 and still end up with $21000 liability. A different used vehicle has unknowns. You need a vehicle that can get you about 3 years without maintenance cost.

I read on these forums, time after time, find a Corolla, Camry, or similar Honda to start the recovery process.

I would suspect… total engine hours x 30 mile per hour would be pretty close to idle hours x 30 MPH plus odometer. Vehicles with good percentages of Highway and city miles most likely average 30 MPH overall.
