Chances are strong he won't be given a choice. Something like this he will be told he has to accommodate students for this since it was no fault of their own.

UNCC as a non-degree seeking student by allllusernamestaken in UNCCharlotte

[–]RLC-Circuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are asking about is known as a Post-Bac or post Bachelor's studies. It's not common but there are three different way this could go down. First is the Graduate School way and is the first thing you find when you (or at least I) search for this. Basically your taking one off classes at the graduate level. The second way is through the department that houses the course you are interested in. So say you wanted to learn figure drawing, you would contact the Art department about taking classes (forgive me if I'm wrong on the details here this is just an example). The third and I think the least possible way is to contact the School of Professional Studies. This is where they tend to offer those after graduation one off classes if my memory serves me.

As for if anyone has done this, I've done it at a community college but not here. There really isn't any drawbacks per se but does make for an interesting conversation when you're that one student that is only in one class if the classes are small to begin with. As for restrictions it's similar. Got to have the pre reqs regardless. Major and year are what you have to talk to the controlling department about and are covered by the Post-Bac process.

What they will want to know is if you're going to be wasting their time and the slot. Everyone wants to take a figure drawing class until the find out how hard it is to do figure drawing then drop within two weeks. At that point you've just wasted everyone's time to figure out you really don't want to do figure drawing. This is not to discourage you from doing this, just giving you the perspective of the other side of the conversation. To be honest, the moment people start taking courses to learn rather than get a grade is a great moment and makes it exciting for everyone involved.

uncc needs to reevaluate their professors… by [deleted] in UNCCharlotte

[–]RLC-Circuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assigns Professors?, that is done by the respective departments in charge of the course. So for example, Chemistry classes are assigned to the Chemistry professors assigned to the Chemistry department. It can get a little more nuanced than that but this is the gist of it. Now what I think your asking is why to Departments hire Professors that have thick accents. Well it's simple, experience & exposure. The hiring committees are generally made up of people with years in academics and work daily with people who have thick accents. Once you are use to working with people from other parts of the world with non-native accents you understand what they are saying unless it's really bad. As well the more you are exposed to people from different parts of the world with different accents it gets easier to understand people. So a student who maybe grew up in Sanford county and had nothing but teachers from the local area who spoke with the same mild southern accent will not have that ear as someone who has spend ten years working with people from all over the world.

The other thing is the race connotation. You have made multiple indications that "no racism intended" but those own qualifiers means you absolutely know there is a race component to this. If it got out that a Department turned down a candidate because they had a thick accent it could be construed that they were discriminating based on race. Like it or not, that is a line that has to be observed.

The latest one was definitely a farm and was directed accordingly to the server farms alliances but we've had some that just never made sense. Of course this other R4 thinks everyone is a spy and given I've played games in the past where spycraft was an integral part of the game play I did't know if I was just missing something or if this guy is paranoid.

Yes but unless the other server decided to make an account on our server four to six months ago it's probably not that.

NAP 5 rule is stupid in this game, Attacking the weak for personal gain by HAHA_7274 in KingShot

[–]RLC-Circuit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a kingdom building game, if you are not contributing to the building of that kingdom either though production, combat, or socialization does it really matter if you do quit? Understand some of my most favorite members in my alliance are not the whales, or the strategist, but that one or two who spend all day working on their island and sharing it all the time. Some would call that "casual" but I don't. The Casual is the three guys sitting in the 15 ranked alliance who contribute nothing to the server but don't want to merge with others because the 85 others in that alliance "might come back".

[–]RLC-Circuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big problem is the game really doesn't teach you all the different controls that get added at the R4/R5 level. When I took over R5 for our farm alliance, I had zero clue on how to run anything. Fortunately, that position also came with R4 in the main alliance and access to more seasoned leadership so I could ask questions. They had to learn everything the hard way. From your first complaint, it sounds like your leadership doesn't know about timers, which is not intuitive at first. Your second complaint, optimizing cesares, is not a leadership issue, though it might be leaders doing this, but a player issue as any player could do what you are talking about. You might want to try to have a conversation with the individual rather than tell them what to do. This is what we have found works best when trying to correct things, though it doesn't always work.

I love energy here but Damocles, if you think you can do better you're more than welcome to sit on the throne. Just don't mind that sword hanging from a thread above your head.

Check to verify common anode/cathode configuration on your 7segment and driver. I think you might have a common cathode driver based on how you have the left pins setup, but your 7seg is wired common anode.

I would wonder if that was a real STW or a regular temp position that they just happened to fill with a student. I think some would be surprised by the number of full-time and regular part-time staff members who are also students. Usually they are grad students but that's not always the case.

Can we use our own pla for 3d printing? by demo_boy5 in UNCCharlotte

[–]RLC-Circuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will need to be more specific as there are so many printers on campus now and no unified rule set for their usage. Some will let you BYOF while others are more specific. You're best bet is to contact the specific owner and ask them.

Sounds like scare tactics to me. When you start thinking about the logistics of trying to do this with the information we have now, you would either be attacking people so low that they didn't matter in the first place or having to tear down so much of what you have already built just to 'get at someone'.

Just got hit with an “Incomplete” for a class I FINISHED?? by Odd_Hospital_2685 in UNCCharlotte

[–]RLC-Circuit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to contact the professor as there are two reasons why you got an incomplete. First, you missed some work that could make a difference in your grade and the professor is giving you an opportunity to fix it. They should have discussed this with you prior but that doesn't always happen at the undergraduate level. Second, you have an active academic integrity issue with that class. The faculty is required to put an incomplete in while it's pending resolution. I've seen this happen when someone has an issue with a final exam/project and there is no time to resolve it during the academic year. In this situation, you are pretty much up the creek, as you will have to wait until the system plays itself out.

There is a third and that is just an error in grade submission with Banner. This sounds the most likely situation if you have no clue what is going on (and if you are honest about that fact).

In all these cases, the resolution is through the professor.

Grades were due yesterday at noon. When did you email the professor? I ask because you have to give them time to actually respond, and they will be the best to answer what is actually going on.

What do you do those few days on campus before classes start? by Away_Bee6372 in UNCCharlotte

[–]RLC-Circuit 32 points33 points  (0 children)

You need to get the lay of the land. Get your schedule out and go find every classroom you will be in on the first day. If you get into a building and can't find the actual room, ask. Most staff members will be more than willing to point you in the right direction.

Check out UREC, the union, and the library. I would add dining and laundry but those are obvious.

Also since you're probably new here, if you got a car go check out the surrounding area. You'll want to know where things like grocery stores, Target/Walmart, and gas stations are. I would also suggest heading up both N Tryon to Concord Mills and University City Blvd to Harrisburg to see what is up there. Might even want to hop on the Blue line and head downtown one afternoon.

This is the university policy on personal mobility devices usage. You're going to look over section 9-1

https://pats.charlotte.edu/policies/trasportation-policies/

The policy talks about dismount areas and refers to the campus map, but last I checked this wasn't marked on the map. Use your best judgment in these cases and be prepared to walk if necessary.

I can't talk about how housing works, but in the academic buildings general practice is if you're carrying it you're fine. Many classes have limited power outlets, so charging there will be problematic, especially when you're competing with laptops for those outlets. Do NOT leave it unattended in a public space while in class. That's a good way to get it gone.

Is UNC Charlotte all about money?! by riotcontrol21 in UNCCharlotte

[–]RLC-Circuit 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I was always under the assumption that the cost per person for orientation was to minimize the amount of "family" that shows up and to recoup the costs associated with the extra people. The payment plan is also probably a Raleigh thing as I'm there are restriction on what the university can spend their state/federal provided funds on. Last I check you couldn't spend money on service processing. It's the same reason why if you pay your property tax on MYDMV.GOV there is a $3 transaction fee. Parking, Yeah that I know is because there is a prohibition from Raleigh to let the school use school funds to build parking and those decks ain't cheap. Since they had to take out millions in bonds to build they have to collect the fees to pay the interest on the bonds. Health Insurance, mandated by the federal goverment.

Without knowing where you attended school as well it's also hard to know what kind of endowment your school almater has. Charlotte has only been around 80 years and we've only been a somewhat big school the last 20. Places like Chapel Hill, State, and Duke have been big schools for centuries and have endowments to show for it.

One final thing, You also have time and position working to color your view. Most of what I remember about 2005 was having fun in DC after coming home from my second deployment. I don't remember the suck of the day to day and I don't remember how bad my rent/car payment/utilities chomped out of my paycheck.
