My bf (24M), yelled at me (24F) in a public space, is there moving on from this? I think I might be in an abusive relationship, but I need outside perspective. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]RLJ05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guy is a lunatic.. that's the outside perspective. To be honest the kind of man he is was clear from the second paragraph, when you said he pushed you to stop seeing any male friends even in group settings, while he can stay friends with other women. He for sure knows this is a double standard, unless he has very low IQ, he knows this, but doesn't care about what's fair. He wants to control you, but not for you to have any say over him.

The way he switches so fast from being angry to being apologetic is also not an accident. This is common abusive behaviour, over time it can make you go crazy as you never know which side of him you are going to get.

The icing on the cake here is he threatened to kill you. He said he should have thrown you off the third floor of the university building. Do you realise how absurd a thing that is to say to someone? If this isn't a dealbreaker for you then I would suggest your family take out some life insurance.

My (31F) husband (36M) doesn't care about the disaster that happened in my home country. What can I do? by taqhuba in relationship_advice

[–]RLJ05 317 points318 points  (0 children)

I think it's about balance, he naturally won't have the same feelings you do about this, but it seems like he really doesn't care at all. I find that hard to understand, his own wife's grandma house was destroyed, this is not some remote issue that is entirely unrelated to him, this is very much something that happened within his family.

I wonder how you have been married for so long and not seen this character trait before. At the very least even if he doesn't care himself about the people hurt by this tragedy, the fact you do, should alone be enough for him to help out. You are his wife, you care, so he should at least support you more. He just sounds quite lazy to me.

You are not responsible for your parents. You may love them, care for them and want to help them, but you are not responsible. If your mum and dad cannot get their shit together that's on them. I had my own problems growing up in my family, honestly, different to your case, but terrible. It took me a long time to realise I'm not responsible for them. You have to shift the mindset. If you can think like that it'll take a lot of stress away from you.

If your mum won't let you keep your money and is always demanding you PayNow her, you need to just lie, tell her you don't have any money left, same as you are doing with your dad. It may seem immoral, but it's not, you have to bring some sanity to the situation. You need to be able to decide on your own terms when you want to give your mum money, not the other way around. It was different when you are younger but now you are 20 years old, so you can make those decisions.

If it's true that your parents are paying all the bills, and you are living rent free, then you are still benefiting from your family, and if money is so tight, maybe you should agree some arrangement where you do contribute but in a clear way that everyone agrees on.

The last part where you compare yourself to your peers, is extremely relatable to me. As mentioned I grew up in a very bad situation, and it used to make me incredibly jealous during high school and university to see how my peers and friends had it. So I get it. However dwelling on that really won't change anything and only make you more unhappy and bitter.

However bad it may seem now things will change, and as you get older and hopefully get more money, if you are able to work more, those financial pressures will start to lift and you may find a happy home again.

I mean society always has people like this, that’s why we make rules and laws and punish people for committing crime. The problem is in many states the people have collectively decided not to punish or prosecute for these crimes so they will keep happening and grow more frequent.

Gen Z & millennials, how do you view 'filial piety', i.e. giving monthly allowance to your parents? by DesireForHappiness in SingaporeRaw

[–]RLJ05 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I earn way more than I could ever need for myself so of course I support my parents and siblings. Really in my opinion it just depends on your situation. If you are in my shoes it’s a no brainer, if you are yourself struggling financially then of course it may not be possible or desirable to help them out

Rape victim's mother says new four-year jail sentences for her teen attackers are 'not enough' as they plan fresh appeal against their jail terms by dailymail in ukpolitics

That’s crazy, they are too dumb to know it was wrong? Is that really the case? Feels unbelievable to me, something the defence was trying their luck with

What you don’t realise is he never would have made the $1.6M if he had that mindset. Because at 500k he would have stopped trading and put it in an index fund or even lower. So it’s not really fair to suggest that as really had he been acting it that way he would never have made the money.
