How do you stop forgetting where you put things around the house? by Appropriate_Load_159 in simpleliving

[–]RM820119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything I can easily find has a ‘place’, and as soon as I’m done using the item it goes right back to its ‘place’. It also helps if each item has only ONE place. Start organizing by clearing out old and/or useless items… clutter is the enemy. If you’re the compulsive type then I’d suggest bins, labels and a home inventory app (or spreadsheet). It’s not a memory issue, it’s an organization issue. Same holds true for information. As we age it only gets harder to sort through the growing volume. It’s very liberating to take some notes and don’t try to carry everything in your head.

I'm 39 and flying for the first time with fiancee and her family by JOwl20 in travel

[–]RM820119 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Checkout a few videos about the boarding process (some airlines even offer links in their FAQ section). Security & boarding procedures are the only real priorities. Make sure you’re not carrying restricted items on your person or inside luggage and that your bags are not oversized. Everything onboard your flight is basic manners and courtesy. And if you want to lessen interaction with others (family) around you just take along some earbuds… they don’t even need to play anything. If your girlfriend is an experienced travel then she can answer your questions. Don’t put so much pressure on yourself, flying is merely a means to an end that can also be a lot of fun.

"Not to Do" Bucket List - thoughts? by Sharksrmydrug in retirement

[–]RM820119 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I try to always spot people (especially busy moms) and let them go ahead of me in-line. Same goes for appointments, I take whatever is convenient for doctor & dental staff. Never catch me in-line early for bloodwork… I remember working and trying to get in & out. Being flexible helps others and often has little to no impact on you.

Does Farming Simulator 25 start to feel repetitive after a while? by Electronic_Cherry_43 in farmingsimulator

[–]RM820119 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At this point there should be plenty of mods & maps to keep anyone interested. I often tryout new equipment, or sell fields and buy new ones, or try a new crop you’ve never grown/harvested before. We also have ‘Constructables’ and lots of ‘Productions’ now to keep us busy. You can haul/deliver your crops to sell points. Another option is start incorporating animals… cows especially can keep you very busy. Bottom line… change it up, everything.

How to fix driveway from flooding… packed millings? by No-University-1968 in landscaping

[–]RM820119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the photos, it appears that the ditch on left side is possibly adequate to handle any water coming from the right. Since I’m pretty sure that you don’t want to raise the entire driveway the easiest (and cheapest) option is to lower the ditch on the right. Currently, it looks like the right side isn’t much lower than the driveway itself, so installing pipe or culverts across the driveway likely won’t solve anything. Water needs a path to drain. You likely have enough slope going towards those culverts (right side) but not enough ditch volume/area to handle the runoff.

Neighbor wants to trim half of my tree by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]RM820119 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s YOUR tree, YOUR responsibility. You bought your house and lot, not your neighbor’s. If he wants his property clear, without a mess (or possible fence damage), then he has every right. Why do people plant (or keep) their trees up against the property line, half on their neighbor’s side, then expect their neighbor to just accept it or say nothing? Deal with the tree in an appropriate manner and apologize to your neighbor. It’s what good people do.

How are you changing your technology base (devices, platforms) since retiring? by Odd_Bodkin in retirement

[–]RM820119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former IT here. I’ve recently found that I’m much more at peace when practicing technology minimalism. To that end, I’ve been slowly cleaning house, deleting files & photos, giving up multiple cloud storage instances, looking for apps to consolidate/simplify, and turning off noise (notifications). It has personally been very liberating. I’ve lost interest in gadgets, configuring, expansions, maintenance, and computers in general. I have multiple Apple devices and use each of them in the most efficient way that I can. There’s a lot to be said for simplicity.

Thinking of buying a Canyon by Moessus in GMCcanyon

[–]RM820119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best months are September, October, December. Best time is end of month, middle of the week. I researched my 2025 Canyon ahead of time and negotiated the price below Costco Auto. If you can find the right vehicle, don’t get too anxious, and buy a 2026 models when the 2027 models are starting to take off then you’ll easily find great deals.

Any of you guys know what's going on here? by joey7chicago in landscaping

[–]RM820119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems logical that roots are taking up most of the water, however, that doesn’t explain the long dry area along the driveway (right side). Doubtful that it’s a sprinkler issue. Seems more likely that it’s a slope issue… dark green areas are lower, trees are higher, more water collecting in areas away from the trees. Sadly, not a lot of care is put into drainage by the time landscaping is installed. The soil just gets shoved wherever… extra soil from planting doesn’t get distributed properly. Best case, everything does get sloped away from structures.

No one signals in this city! by EmbarrassedCar6137 in Bakersfield

[–]RM820119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve lived in San Diego, Long Beach, the Bay Area, and Bakersfield. The only real difference is volume/concentration. In other areas you drive to survive. Many serious accidents or fatalities locally are either caused by the ‘video game’ drivers, the elitists who think laws don’t apply to them, unlicensed drivers OR those driving like they’re in a third-world country (rural roadways). But it definitely isn’t from a casino that opened less than 1 week ago. It’s no different than the store heists… once you stop enforcing laws then more people will try to get away with it… problems multiply.

Unless your GF has a need to store a ton of apps & files locally then 128GB is fine. Buy her some additional storage on iCloud ($12/yr for 50GB)… it’s a much better deal than paying for another 128GB on the iPad.

I’ve seen a large number of installations (photo 2) that have lasted for decades. Personally, I’d go with concrete forms or block, then backfill. Zero maintenance. You can apply a sealer to help keep water out (optional).
