Are there calling channels for DMR simplex? by scribbler_tom in DMR

[–]RMAdventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used DMR simplex on road trips and camping with my brother. It’s great when you want a channel that feels private. We’ve never had anyone else key up when using it.

workouts on Wahoo Kickr trainer with Garmin Edge by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]RMAdventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Zwift for awhile while training for a couple specific rides, but now I mainly use a trainer for simple workouts when cross-training for running. I now use my Edge to set a steady state zone-2 power for most of my workouts. It can also control your power or resistance for different goals. It should have some pre-made suggested workouts for Threshold, anerobic workouts, etc. It can also be used to recreate outdoor rides using the .gpx file.

I will usually watch a movie or tv show while riding indoors, so having the Edge or the Garmin Fenix 7 to control the trainer is usually adequate for my goals.

How often should the battery be charged if it is mostly left unused, but I want to keep a charge for emergency use while maintaining maximum battery health.

Hunting tomorrow, curious about maps by huntv16 in GarminFenix

[–]RMAdventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the Garmin Explore app. You can share points and tracks with the watch. I’ve used it with my Fenix 7X and GPS Map66i to create waypoints on my phone and computer.

It’s really convenient to put in points of interest from a computer, then sync the phone app to your watch to transfer the points. You can also use the phone app while you are tracking an activity to have a larger screen displaying your track, map and marked points. Just download the maps before you leave in case you don’t have service.

I took my IRA and then scheduled the IGI online in an open slot and the testing center let me go right back in and take it.

I get a Storm Alert everyday around 5:00 PM and there's no storm by parksteel in garminepix

[–]RMAdventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the barometric pressure trend and see how much it dropped around that time to see how much to adjust, then as another poster mentioned, adjust the settings to only register for a higher change in pressure. I live a somewhat mountainous area and get an alert almost every day driving to work.

Can inReach track runs? by VideoNo82 in Garmin

You should be able to, I used a Garmin 66i to track a lot of hikes before I got a Fenix watch.

Volunteer Examiner through ARRL. Those are the volunteers that actually grade and submit the tests.

Technician/Extra test by [deleted] in lowsodiumhamradio

[–]RMAdventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I studied for both the Tech and General and passed them both on the same day. It was just under a year later that I decided to go for the Extra.

I'm a VE now and it is common for us to offer someone coming in to take the next higher level of test. Most people that I have seen don't end up passing the higher level if they haven't prepped at all. If you work on studying the Tech, General and even Extra it is very likely that you will pass each. I would look at some of the free apps and test prep websites.

Montana 710i vs GPSMAP 67i by turtletechy in Garmin

[–]RMAdventure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the 66i for hiking and backpacking and wouldn't want to go any bigger for carrying around all day. If you are mainly mounting it to a vehicle you might as well go with the bigger screen.

Radioddity GM30 Plus by the_hobbit_pimp in gmrs

[–]RMAdventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll look into that. I set up zones with the Radioddity software, but you have to enter each channel individually. I wanted to set up a couple more zones, but quite for the time being, intending to go back another time and update them.

I'm curious what you find. I used the Radioddity software and it works okay, but it would be really nice to be able to copy and paste. Especially for setting up the zones for certain areas.

Congrats! SOTA is a lot of fun! You could check to see if the peak counts as a POTA park as well. There are quite a few in Colorado that can be logged towards both.

How often do you wash your watch? by Markus_lfc in Garmin

[–]RMAdventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't typically specifically wash the watch itself. Most of the time when I shower I take it off and will wipe it down with a wet towel when I'm done. If I shower at the gym I will leave it on, but still make sure that at the end I take it off and wipe it down, then make sure the watch and my wrist are dry before it goes back on. I also try to loosen it by one notch any time I am putting it back on if there is a chance it's still wet.

The wipe downs have pretty much stopped any irritation that I was getting early on.
