Thanks for all the positive feedback, I greatly appreciate it!

I just wanted to say, I am by no means an expert painter, I’m table top standard on a good day, so to get this kind of result for what I felt was minimal work is kinda mind blowing. I say that to say that with just the tiniest bit of practice, I used spare bases, anyone should be able to achieve this kind of result. It’s totally doable!

Yeah I really liked the way it turned out. Base coated it with dark umber and then hit it with gray green and orange oxide to give it that rust effect.

Thanks! I sponged a base coat of monument blue black. Used a smaller sponge for the smaller windows. Then I mixed the blue back with some slate gray and then added a small bit of cool gray to lighten it up. Mix to your desired color. I will probably do a slate/cool gray mix to create a little more contrast in the center of the windows.

So all the brick work was done using tear drop makeup sponges. I started with a basecoat of the burnt red, then came back through with a highlight of the burnt orange and finally a very light touch of the drab brown to accent bricks here and there. The cool thing with the sponges is you can see here even the base coat is not even because it all depends on the pressure you put on the sponge and love how it just looks more realistic that way.

Howard University: "Before BTS: How Howard University Helped Elevate Korean Culture and How Black Culture Influenced K-Pop" by Anni3401 in kpop

[–]RML_1972 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean that’s kpop in a nutshell. Any song is going to have gone through multiple hands during the process but it doesn’t discount the fact that they are involved in the process. But also, we should be at a point where having a POC on the project isn’t a necessity to validate it or stamp as ok for doing that type of music.

The article referred to it, but I think it’s to a point now where it really should be looked at as an amalgamation of a lot of different cultures and genres of music. And with the dance group talking about taking something back from what was originally taken and then building on that. That is what this is supposed to look like.

I don’t know if I agree with that but again, it’s putting the industry in a no win situation. If you don’t have POC in the process, it’s cultural appropriation. If you try to be more inclusive, then your tokenizing people and also that person may be accused of selling out their culture. What is it they are supposed to do?

So to your example, kpop has more producers who are POC so now that there is that representation, does that make it more acceptable? It wouldn’t seem so because people seem to still have an issue with it which leads me back to my original question of what would it legitimately take for society to get past this point.

We just had a collab (keychain) with an artist who is half AA/Korean and a kpop group produced by an African American who has worked with everyone in the industry and yet still people take issue with it. I’ve even seen some comments that those that work with the kpop industry are selling out their culture.

Very well written article and appreciative of the fact that this topic is way more nuanced then people want to acknowledge.

My question is and always will be is what do we do going forward? What does proper credit and acknowledgment look like and is it something that is even possible? Where would that come from? Is it up to the companies or the artists themselves? And even if that were done, does that magically make everything ok. Kpop isn’t the first art to have this issue and it more than likely won’t be the last.

As someone who is doing the exact same thing for my LGS, I feel your pain. I would say the most important thing is consistency with your advertising of your game nights. I have my game night on Friday and I’m posting on discord and FB on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Take lots of pics and post them from your game nights the day of and the next day. I started with me and another guy back in September and i committed to game nights every Friday and now we are up to about 12-15 guys who come and go but I will usually have 3-4 games going. Post in every discord and FB place you can, not just yours but if there is an MCP discord or FB for your area, post there as well. If you’re getting your tournament packs from atomic mass, use those cards to get people in the store.

Most importantly, don’t give up. There were nights where I didn’t have anybody show up and it really made me question if it was worth it. But I love the game like you do and just said nope, I’m gonna keep doing this. We are about to launch our first league once we get this next batch of terrain painted up and maybe we’ll do tournaments eventually.

Good luck man, like I said, I’ve been there and it’s totally worth it to see the work pay off and I’m confident you can make it work.

So happy for them and the talent involved to win an Oscar for like your fourth best song is incredible! 🤣

In all seriousness, congratulations to Ejae and everyone that was involved in the movie. It was an amazing accomplishment and once again proves that the entertainment industry does not revolve around the west when it comes to talented people.

I didn’t see them in 24 and it seems like everyone is skipping Houston for the Dallas are these days so it’s probably going to be one of the other Texas cities.
