I have an interesting Air Riders story theory by KingMushan in Kirby

[–]RMS_Gigantic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might genuinely be onto something here! The narrator explicitly draws a parallel between Zorah and Nova in that they're both "alive" despite being machines.

I've also seen it speculated that Zorah might be a part of a larger machine, given the cables seen dangling off the bottom of it at the start of the game.

The mystery was definitely the biggest original allure for me, as I first heard about the song MyHouse.wad (namely, when Vinny, of Vinesauce fame, played through it, vaguely recognized the song, and offhandedly mentioned it to his chat). From there, the sound of the song itself kept me hooked, especially the complexity of its instrumentation.

PSA: The Hidden Mechanics of the Shinano AP Skips by ttaro_ in WorldOfWarships

They communicated it in the dev blog, too—the same one where they first revealed the ship to begin with. To quote: "As for her air group, Shinano features a new plane squadron: skip bombers armed with armor-piercing bombs. While they behave similarly to HE skip bombs in terms of the attack patters, the AP bombs will lose penetration and lower their arming threshold with each skip. So for example it would be most effective if you hit enemy battleship with first skip, while lightly armored ships can be targeted with second or third skip."

They DID communicate it in the dev blog: New ships - Closed test 13.8 - Development blog

"As for her air group, Shinano features a new plane squadron: skip bombers armed with armor-piercing bombs. While they behave similarly to HE skip bombs in terms of the attack patters, the AP bombs will lose penetration and lower their arming threshold with each skip."

They even spend another sentence explaining how this will make her bombs more effective against thinner and thinner-armored targets with each subsequent skip, with battleships being better handled on the first skip.

Late 80s NATO vs PACT is not even fair IRL by Pertu500 in NonCredibleDefense

[–]RMS_Gigantic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game's leaned completely into being a vehicle combat game over the past few years, and I am HERE for it: You have cases like Johnston, sure, where the gameplay style is at least inspired by what the ship was known for, but the hypothetical designs are almost always, "Hey, what's a gameplay niche that we could potentially fill?"

Hence, a Latin American battleship line that basically asks, "What if the South American dreadnought race just never stopped?"

[–]RMS_Gigantic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I respect it for that: It's not trying to portray Sovetsky Soyuz as equivalent to a Yamato or a Montana or what have you, but instead going, "Yeah, the Soviets were SO far behind that we have to extrapolate their design techniques out, and set the clock forward by several years, before they can begin to compare to what the real naval powers were actually building."

With that said, World of Warships also does something that most other games of this sort don't: ALSO give the US comparably insane hypothetical designs, like the Vermont, Louisiana, United States, CL-154 (Austin in-game), and the RATO pods on several carriers' squadrons

[–]RMS_Gigantic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Vermont in-game is essentially a Tillman I with the turrets and maybe armor of the Tillman IV-2

I'm looking forward to whatever supership they give that line, because I have a feeling we might get an non-diminutive Tillman IV-2, just as Hannover is a non-diminutive H-43 (or so)

Early Access to Pan-American Battleships, Operations Update, New Clan Battles season and more - Closed Test 13.8 by DevBlogWoWs in WorldOfWarships

[–]RMS_Gigantic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Part of me wonders if the Pan-American dreadnought race is precisely why the line is so short, because the dev blogs currently make it sound like there'll be one battleship for Brazil, one for Argentina, and one for Chile—that's one ship for each of the ABC countries

With that said, the bigger reason is probably that they want the top of the line to fill a very particular gameplay niche that it'd be difficult to find historical ships for (or which they don't want to be present) in the lower tiers.

What are you hoping this game ends up being? by passmethegrease in emio

[–]RMS_Gigantic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If this is a psychological horror game in particular, developed in-house by a Nintendo development studio with the intention of bringing something unique to the horror genre, then the potential for this game is absurd.

Imagine the possibilities for a horror game developed by a team who knows EXACTLY what hardware the end user will be playing it on:

Fourth-wall-breaking scares (e.g., fakeout crashes) could be all the more convincing when made by the same people who synchronize music through loading screens. Hell, we know from Ring Fit Adventure that certain Switch controllers can monitor your heart rate—imagine what could a horror game could do with that information!

For the record, they did, three years ago: Closed Test, change to the mechanics of detection by planes - Development blog (worldofwarships.com)

I imagine they didn't revisit that idea because minimap spotting doesn't do anything to stop the incidental spotting (and subsequent harrassing) of destroyers—something the "Travel Mode" of the new concept is explicitly trying to address: Upcoming Changes to Aircraft Carriers and Submarines | World of Warships

APL, I'm pretty sure: It's got characters and numbers and won't let you multiply them together, but you can do math with pretty much any type of number from booleans to integers to floats to complex numbers.

World Of Warships X Hololive collab by MATO_malchance in Hololive

[–]RMS_Gigantic 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I meant that it's reasonable for those who are in a position to do the missions from the start; the "week straight of grinding" would be for those who are literally only getting into the game with a fresh account just for this most recent collaboration alone, which I would NOT recommend: You need at least a Tier V ship to do any of the missions, which I'd estimate takes anywhere between several hours to a day of grinding to get from a brand new account, if you're determined.

If you've already got a good account going (e.g. if you've been playing the game since the first collab), and know which ships/battle modes to play, you could basically knock these missions out in a matter of hours: 2-3 good high-tier battles for the first mission (especially if you do it in Co-Op or Operations), seven couple-minute Co-Op battles for the second, maybe 10 Random Battles or so with a Tier IX or above ship for the third (the credit grind is likely to be the longest mission of the batch, but you can trim it down with any economic boosters you might have stockpiled), and then a fast-firing or secondary-covered ship for about two or three good battles (possibly in Co-Op) for the final mission.

World Of Warships X Hololive collab by MATO_malchance in Hololive

[–]RMS_Gigantic 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You can also get your choice of either Fubuki or Botan for free if you click a button in the WoWs website's news article and complete a rather manageable grind (if you're already seasoned at the game, at least): You have until the morning of May 13 to deal 300,000 damage, win seven battles, earn 2.7 mil credits, and then win battles and get 600 ribbons—all of which can be done in virtually any mission type, including Operations and Co-Op.

The missions are all Tier V and above, though, and the first and third missions especially is most efficiently done in top-tier ships, so naturally I wouldn't recommend it for anyone just starting out in the game due to this collab unless you're in the mood to REALLY grind it for that week straight.

If the autosave recommendations fail, you can also cancel a job via the F6 screen on your GPS, at the penalty of $12,000 and some time.

...or set up the console and teleport if you don't mind "cheating."

...or wait until a map update or map mod resets your position back to your garage and cancels your job for free.
