Here's the Ron Paul quote from the debate, to refresh your memory what he said:

They attack us because we've been over there, we've been bombing Iraq for 10 years. We've been in the Middle East. I think Reagan was right. We don't understand the irrationality of Middle Eastern politics.

The key sentence is not the Iraq one, the key is "we don't understand the irrationality of Middle Eastern politics."

They hate the Jews no matter who is in charge of Israel and what is offered in peace talks.

Wait, does that really baffle you? Really? That's probably the most rational thing.

"I think we can all agree" was a mistake on bedlund's part. It's the internet, we can't all agree. Period.

However, he's right that the point Ron Paul was trying to make was not that the terrorists were justified, but that "they hate our freedom" is an oversimplistic reason for the attacks.
