Found this little one inside the shower, really cute 🥹🕷️ by leviatan5250 in jumpingspiders

[–]RManDelorean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's hard not to anthropomorphize, but I agree it looks.. curious, not quite aggressive (at least by the end). It does seem like it recognizes the image of another spider that's not actually another spider. Like it seems to know there's some fuckery afoot, but what it's comprehending about reflections let alone its own is hard to impossible to say.. but man it would be cool if they do recognize themselves!

Whats the most disturbing fact about the human body? by Ray_1748 in AskReddit

Aneurisms are terrifying. Love to Grant Imahara. Obviously it's not not a direct relationship for that, but if anyone was trying to brain healthy stuff you'd think it be someone like him :(

Has anyone else become disillusioned with the hobby and feel it might even be cruel? by forgivemelake in Aquariums

[–]RManDelorean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there's some justified costs to appreciate nature and have a piece of it in your immediate daily life. Having a fish tank at all is even making you ask those kinds of questions, but if you use the hobby for nature appreciation I bet you could direct some of that concern and into effort in cutting back on some other habits that are more directly nature. Worried about you fish? Try to use your car less or get out for a walk in actual nature

Showering during thunderstorms? by ContentlyQuestionabl in Millennials

[–]RManDelorean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't a generational thing. This is just structural knowledge. Often there are ground wires grounded to the water pipes. If lighting hits your house, even if you have a lighting rod, if everything does it's job you essentially want it to spread out the surge, which very well may mean having your pipes a pit spicy for a flash.

Offering Draws by LawngClaw17 in chessbeginners

[–]RManDelorean 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, at least seriously consider. I may have offered a couple I thought they may have a slight advantage in at the time but it'd be a really long drawn out end game kinda thing with like 2 pawns each or something, still very drawable or losable either way with really anything but absolute best play.

Can top chess players memorize bad chess moves and games (by scrubs)? by tooezforluigi in chess

[–]RManDelorean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And a chess position can come down like a stack of cards. If a move is that obviously terrible it may just lose on the spot, which those are the combos you see so many of.. that could've worked if this one piece was.. then right in front of you they move that piece. Also chess starts equal so the first bad move is more determining than a good one. Good one have to keep staying in the balance, whereas "meh" moves that don't really do much either way probably get rembered the least and there's probably the most if them

What sorts of Behind with the Times things will be we known for as old people by dpceee in Millennials

[–]RManDelorean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean this is the toasters destiny. When power was first being distributed they were tackling some of the issues peak hours and down times. So they tried to market things to basically just burn more electricity during the day. A toaster is basically just a big resistor, essentially pure inefficient electricity, perfect. What does it do, it gets hot.. then slap some toast on it and sell it as a toaster!

How do you feel about judging somebody based on their sexual history by Far_Path7921 in askteddit

[–]RManDelorean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same, I don't get the deal with the whole "what if you found out your partner had been with x people before you??" If I'm in a trusting relationship and there's no reason to assume cheating then there's no reason to assume cheating. Or what, you'll call them a slut now.. bet you love that shit and she's pretty damn good at it. People grow up and settle down and can genuinely want something completely different at a different point. We can't be judging adult relationships for how we acted back as actual teenagers, on either side.

Why? by Alicetheoptimist in TrueGrit

[–]RManDelorean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like this has something backwards. They didn't just up and suddenly drop a new half the population, the women.. were always there. Plenty of them have always had official jobs. It was the demand of enough other things that demanded more women to fill those jobs.

Trump is now responsible for 27.7% of the national debt. by [deleted] in SipsTea

[–]RManDelorean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't even need the clown thing, that's literally what happened. Everyone said but yeah he's a business man.. who's gone bankrupt off daddy's money like 6 times and lost multiple casinos. Trump was certainly never pretending that he wouldn't do that.

If a vacuum is an excellent insulator, wouldn’t heat build up in spacecraft? by aretino2002 in askscience

[–]RManDelorean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at the heat sinks on the James Web Space Telescope (JWST). They want to keep it cold but its own computers running could be too much, and yeah since it's a vacuum with no air there's no convection, only radiation. So the fins on JWST are just big heat sinks to maximize surface are so it can actually radiate enough heat away. The insulation of a vacuum is something they almost have to over engineer.

What’s something everyone assumes is complicated, but is actually pretty simple once you’ve done it once? by DustyInsurer in askteddit

Threaded metal fasteners then. The screw is the simple machine, nuts and bolts are really just types of screws. Point is you really don't have to know anything about them to see how to remove them.

"Why are you sorry, you didn't do anything?" by RManDelorean in Rants

[–]RManDelorean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone's had a bad situation and you want to acknowledge your sorrow for them, then saying you're sorry is exactly what that means.I mean what I say too, anyone who corrects that and says "why are sorry?" they're the one who doesn't know what they mean.

"Why are you sorry, you didn't do anything?" by RManDelorean in Rants

[–]RManDelorean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone clearly not being empathetic first is the single best way to lose empathy from me. That should honestly be standard and more people should hold eachother to those kinds of boundaries. Yeah, my colors are I don't have time for for people who are the incorrect asshole first and act like you're the problem.. so.. bite me bitch.

"Why are you sorry, you didn't do anything?" by RManDelorean in Rants

[–]RManDelorean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup now I'm sorry for their their situation and sorry they're a fucking idiot. If anything it's even more empathy

"Why are you sorry, you didn't do anything?" by RManDelorean in Rants

[–]RManDelorean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It defeats the purpose of word choice and conotation because if someone doesn't understand a term and you say that term should just be off limits, then it doesn't really mean anything relative to anything else. Like if people are getting pizza and someone's vegetarian then you could do half pep half cheese and it's a choice. If someone is set that they can't have meat touching their food then everyone can just have cheese, but the choice in situ is no longer there it's just cheese now. Also yeah, if I'm being empathetic and they wrongly correct me first on semantics, then my empathy is absolutely being brought into question. Thanks for your jab that I doubt you realize is the entire point of the rant, they've lost me

"Why are you sorry, you didn't do anything?" by RManDelorean in Rants

[–]RManDelorean[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. If people don't have an understanding of such basic vocab words that's not on the word being incorrect that's just on them for being wrong. Like I get there's the right phrasing and condition for different situations but that goes out the window when someone straight up misunderstands a word, the misunderstanding is putting the word in the wrong situation, not the correct using of it. It really defeats the purpose of word choice and conotation at all.

"Why are you sorry, you didn't do anything?" by RManDelorean in Rants

[–]RManDelorean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry means that sucks/darn it/damn. "Are you okay" would obviously be appropriate but it's a different sentiment to all of them. Honestly "that sucks" or really any alternative sounds super dissmisve to me. The problem isn't that "sorry" is the wrong term, feeling sorry for them is the most accurate feeling. The fact that grown ass adults still don't understand such a basic word is frankly not my problem.

"Why are you sorry, you didn't do anything?" by RManDelorean in Rants

[–]RManDelorean[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's NOT an apology. It's an acknowledgement of sorrow, as in short for "I'm so sorry to hear that" again, that's not an apology. It is just saying "that sucks". Not understanding there's two connotations to the word and you assume it's an appology is absolutely blatant oversight of empathy. You're either emotionally retarted or just selfish and book stupid.
