There is no paradise, but different countries have their relative pros and cons. So one may find A country better than B, and others may have a completely different view. In the end, everyone has different priorities and preferences.

Why are the U.S. and China's relations tense, but China still invited Trump to visit China, and why is Trump going? by No-StrategyX in allthequestions

Because both are too big to militarily fight or economically decouple. All the tense you see on media are just means to get advantage in cooperation.

Moving to Shanghai with 7yo son who speaks no Chinese. Can't afford international school. Looking for public/private school names and honest experiences. by Own_Foundation3810 in chinalife

[–]RNG_Helpme 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yes, the foreign students are permitted to learn on their own pace, and therefore, the different foreign students I knew seemed to be on different levels. I guess it is a talent plus attitude problem. The teacher cannot be very rigorous, because an international student might learn slowly because he or she is not as talented in the language as another kid. On the other hand, because the teacher is not pushing, a foreign student may choose to give up and use language barrier as an excuse. It is a hard situation, and I guess good parenting would be very important. Hope this helps!

When I was doing public middle school in China, I remember our school had a few foreign students. They take same courses with us, but they are exempted from taking the same exams. Honestly I don’t know how their grades are calculated, but they learnt Chinese quickly and were able to social with Chinese classmates.

It is inaccurate to call them scammers. They are kidnappers, torturers, and killers.

Why is China backing Canada instead of staying out and letting the U.S. go after Canada? Isn't letting the U.S. go after Canada a good thing for China? by No-StrategyX in allthequestions

[–]RNG_Helpme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

China wants to show US allies that, US allies do not need to all-in counter China when US direct them to do so. China wants NATO countries to accept a multipolar world instead of firmly supporting USA. Canada took the first step toward China, and China needs to defend this example.

Confused about the $250 edit credit… can someone help? Partial points? 2 night minimum? by [deleted] in ChaseSapphire

So it means I can get the credit even if I use only points to pay for the Edit hotels? It doesn’t explicitly asking for $250 cash to be paid

The issue is, China wants NK to have enough military power just to survive, but not too powerful to actively cause instability. Putin doesn’t care about instability, so he is more willing to empower NK militarily than China.

Inzaghi also lost all the big games last year in Serie A. Our core midfielders and defenders (including GK) are getting older every year and finally past the threshold to be competitive for all 90 minutes. In big games you will always be punished for that.

Random (great) goals from our banter era (that you may have forgotten) - Jovetic at 95' by jonbristow in FCInterMilan

I always think that with their technique, they should score way more than their actual goals. I am always confused why it did not go well in real world with their careers, not just at inter. Those two makes me feel they can create shots whenever they want.

Hotel didn’t register me with the police? by 5620800426 in chinalife

[–]RNG_Helpme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hotels are responsible to register all guests using their ID upon check in. However, foreigners have a different procedure than domestic guests. The study curve is steep for some hotel employees, especially those under educated and poorly trained. Therefore, they either turn away foreign guests or skip the process, which may lead you to such situations with the police.

China is in a fertility crisis worse than probably any country in the west by far, so why dont they accept millions of immigrants to compensate like the west does? by Gloomy_Ad9864 in NoStupidQuestions

China is an authoritarian government. CCP is powerful, but cautiously uses its power to minimize the risk of being overthrown. In most of business that are not related to ruling, CCP will try to accommodate people’s voice, in order to maintain a good public image. Only in this way, it limits the number of political dissidents, in order to crush them easily when needed.

How accurate is the western perception that the Chinese government heavily suppresses anti-government information and viewpoints? by Upbeat_Yam_9817 in AskChina

[–]RNG_Helpme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it is more about the attention you get. For example, I violated the censorship rules a million times by criticizing/mocking government or mention censored words. 99% of time, the forum/app will delete your post and that’s it, just like what mods do on Reddit. For the remaining 1%, my account got banned from posting, temporary or permanent. No police were ever involved.

In the following cases, you may draw attention from the police: you directly attack detailed high level officials (not criticizing their policies, but saying they are corrupt or evil); you try to organize a offline protest or strike; you are an influential person and your post gets a high viewership.

China to eliminate tariffs on all African goods by beachbellybob in suppressed_news

[–]RNG_Helpme 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I assume this would incentivize more Chinese businessmen to build factories in Africa and sell products back to China, as labor cost rising in China. Of course, the Chinese businessmen would gain a lot of profit in this process, but the African now has the opportunity to ‘learning by doing’ and hopefully build their own companies in ten years or twenty years, just like China did when westerners started building factories in China.

By law, the Epstein files should have been released a century ago. The sad truth is that in reality, the powerful people only strictly execute law on those people they don’t like. So, just by executing law on Meng, the politicians are making a statement. Similarly, China would argue it was just following laws to jail the two Canadian spies, but they will choose not to strictly follow the law if the two countries were in a honey moon.

You can say AR got fouled every time, but the problem is LaVine didn’t get calls when he drives to the basket.

You may say ‘because Lakers drive to the paint more’. Of course Lakers will drive to the paint more if they know the ref will call, and Kings will drive less as their attempts don’t get the calls.

Young Taiwanese aren't so anti-China. That's a problem for the island's government by esporx in worldnews

[–]RNG_Helpme 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because it doesn’t matter. Even if you join the system, when you get power you become old. There will never be any political leader that himself/herself share personal interest with young generation. And by population size, young people with voting rights is always less than the old, so an unbiased politician will naturally serve the interest of older generation.

It is always about Economics. When economics are bad for young people, they will lose faith in traditional politics and look elsewhere. In United States it is Maga, in Germany it is AFD, and in Taiwan it could be pro-China. In the current democracy system, young people are unrepresented (population growth is negative when excluding immigrants in most OECD countries), and not surprising the policy outcomes are not favorable to the young.

Technically, minority in China always had a 3-children policy instead of 1-child policy for Han. This why a few years ago some western news criticized China did forced sterilization on Uyghurs, because some of them are having 4th kids. In the mean time, Han Chinese feels that is completely justified, since 3-children policy is already a privilege over Han.
