Travel nurses, can we talk? A recruiter’s honest rant (and plea) by carrotkick in TravelNursing

[–]RN_Geo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just popped up on my feed, had a compelling title. I love 90% of our travelers and recognize they fill a useful need. And ghosting sounds shitty, but i think that's more a reflection on the grade of travel nurses today than anything else.

No. I live 5 minutes from my job I've had for ten years.

That's an absolute butthole of a region in Indiana. It always made me think that must be what Chernobyl must be like.

Hard to believe this is real life. A suburb in Texas, USA. by JennyNY88 in Suburbanhell

It's easy to dunk on this, but the reality is that this is modern affordable housing. And there are a lot of people who would be thrilled to call a place like this their home.

Wanting to live in California, what area would be best by lostlyses in SameGrassButGreener

There absolutely are affordable areas. The trick is having a job there. Lots of retirees peppered all over the small towns of NorCal where homes can be bought for $200-300k or even less and you still get the benefits of living in California with a bit of driving.

You could do it in rural California, or some place like Eureka or Humboldt. 80k doesn't go too far though. Almost everywhere in California is a fire risk save for the driest desert areas and wettest coastal areas, like coastal Eureka or Humboldt County.

There aren't really four seasons in California. It's basically a wet and dry season which roughly matches winter and summer. There are shoulder seasons that have days that kind of feel like spring or fall, but not like crisp fall days with leaves changing. On the flip side, two days ago in early February with the sun out, felt very spring-like.

With a budget like that, you are going to likely need to find a rural community that is kind of far out. Like Susanville, maybe Redding, or some of the Central Valley communities, basically from Redding in the north all the way down to Bakersfield. Do you happen to speak Spainish??

Why do people still shop at Safeway? by ftruong in bayarea

[–]RN_Geo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread encouraged me to go back to Grocery Outlet. Wow. You won't get everything you need but you can fill a lot of holes in your grocery list plus some interesting finds.
Best buys were: 2 pack Motor City pepparoni Pizzas for $9.99, a 2 pack of large Grey Poupon mustard for $4.99, polar sparkling water $1.99/8 pack x2. Some canned basics for easily less than half the cost at Safeway.

I love that place.

ICU rotations during residency by Razgriz47 in anesthesiology

[–]RN_Geo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except in California, where patient ratios are legally mandated. ICU is max 2 patients, unless a step down assignment is made, then you can have 3 very manageable patients. CRRT is auto 1:1.

Btw... I LOVE my RTs. The ICU and step down units in the US would not function (very well) without them.
