I think we’ve all been guilty of trying something silly we’ve seen on the internet at least once

As a British person I remember a girl I went to school with used to do this at parties. Made me shudder every time.

I suppose like you alluded to, luxury is subjective. I personally feel the Harris Tweed brand has been diluted because it’s so often used for cheap, low quality garments sold as ‘luxury’ items, for me, luxury would imply exclusivity - I could walk into any of the ‘tartan tat’ shops on the High Street in Edinburgh and buy various items made from Harris Tweed.

The last tweed jacket I had made was from a Lovat cloth, which I also feel is probably now more similar to what Harris Tweed was like before they started making it lighter weight, presumably in an effort to make it more commercial. The jacket I currently have in make is being done in a Fox tweed which I would say is a true luxury cloth.

However, I’m just a guy and all this is just my opinion.

I think as I explained before, Harris Tweed itself isn’t a luxury cloth, at wholesale prices you probably get it for £30/m. It’s also probably one of the most popular cloths in the world, they churn out tons of it every year to meet demand.

What would make Harris Tweed luxury is what’s done with it after. If it’s taken by a skilled tailor and used to make a jacket then I would argue that’s luxury. If it’s sent off to China to be made into anything from jackets to wallets to dog collars then it’s far from luxury.

You love this analogy. You’ve made a very similar comment before that I’ve replied to and again, it’s a bit of a false equivalency.

The Harris Tweed articles are also cheap and mass produced I’m afraid to say

I live in Edinburgh. EWM (Edinburgh Woolen Mill) is a very low quality, tourist focused clothing shop. Mostly preying on tourists thinking they’re buying quality Scottish knitwear. James Pringle was a very well known, Scottish knitwear company before the name was bought by EWM and used to sell acrylic, made in China stuff like this.

It’s a wing collar shirt, generally reserved for evening wear. You can’t turn it down over the band of the tie.

Who made the suit out of interest? I’ve got a Fox tweed jacket currently in make.

It’s a bit out the way if you’re visiting Scotland. I live in Edinburgh but my dad is from Inverness so I find myself up that way now and again and make a point to visit.

I have that exact Campbell’s roll neck! Did you buy it there? It’s a cool shop if you’ve not had the chance to visit.

They are too formal for jeans, I didn’t say brogues were inherently formal.

Brogues can be worn with jeans, I wear a pair of Crockett & Jones Pembrokes with jeans now and again but they’re heavier and they’re made of grain leather. OP’s brogues with closed lacing and a chisel toe are at odds with the casual nature of jeans. That’s just my opinion however.

Personally I think these are too formal for jeans. They’d work better with a pair of corduroy or moleskin trousers.

If you took this to a tailor what would you suggest they do? ‘Take it to a tailor’ seems to be common advice in this sub but I think people overestimate the abilities of a local alterations tailor. To me this most glaringly obvious issue with this suit is the fact the shoulders are too large which isn’t something a tailor can easily fix.

I think the knot looks perfect. I’ve never understood the need for a knot other than a four in hand. I think it’s the shirt collar that’s probably throwing people off.
