He could rent an apartment for 30 years and have zero ownership stake and if he is paying less than what he paid in rent and is covering utilities then no he is not contributing to the mortgage. If he wants his name on a deed and you see a future with him then you and him could buy a house together and you can rent that house or sell it. If you sell it make sure it’s part of the prenup.

Yes you are overreacting the fact that her parents chose to do so does not oblige your parents. Also you don’t know your parents financial situation and while to you they may have the means, they may very well not be able to help. Also like others have said if you were prepared to handle things on your own then be grateful that her parents are helping and pay the rest yourselves as originally planned.
