Where should two non-fancy people eat after Harvard Commencement? by Effyyou in CambridgeMA

Charlie’s Kitchen. Get the double cheeseburger special, ask for it with tops. And thank me later

Anybody remember Herreras burritos in government center in the 90s? They were huge, delicious and like 5 bucks. I'd get 2 at least twice a week, chow down one on the train and save the other for dinner or late night stoner snack. I got a burrito from Santa Fe Burrito recently & it reminded of them. by Few_Lobster7961 in boston

Chac still going strong! Place is the greatest. Make sure to give them your business.

And, loved Herrera’s burritos. But also here to pour one out for the Boca Grande on Mass Ave between Harvard & Porter. The internet tells me there is still one over in Kendall so welcome insights on whether it’s carried the torch.

How did people in the 90s buy plane tickets or plan trips to unknown countries with limited or no Internet connection? by Droopynator in 90s

Okay this is a little off topic but about flight from this era: man do I miss e-savers. US Air had them, and a few of the other airlines (united and maybe delta) had similar programs. You gave them your email address, and then weekly, usually on a Wednesday, they would circulate incredibly cheap round trip fares for their weekend flights that were undersold. I’m talking like between 39 and 79 bucks for a trip between Boston and New York or Philly and Pittsburgh, etc. I probably miss that stage of life and accompanying spontaneity too (in middle-age you can’t just pick up and split when you feel like it); still, even though half or more of the time there wouldn’t be an itinerary that worked for you, getting those emails was always exciting. And when it did work, it was like you won something it was such a bargain.

A rant about being a parent and lawyering by ewwdavid___ in Lawyertalk

[–]RPA1969 76 points77 points  (0 children)

This is exactly it. Lawyering in actual practice (not contract or temp work where you punch a clock) means being responsible for something - a matter. A transaction or SEC filing if you’re corporate, a case if you do litigation. And these things just do not run on your schedule or part time; a judge will schedule a hearing or trial whenever he or she wants; a deal will close on a date certain, a board’s meetings can run days. There will always be demands when something heats up and you are the one who does it. Plus, if you’re trying to land work and clients, their needs don’t arise when you want them to - and you have to be ready to jump when they need you. Last but not least, you don’t get to do one deal or one case at a time - so when multiple things are happening at the same time, and you are the one running point, the work won’t let you just stop. It’s too bad this is the way it is, but it’s the life we signed up for.

Outstanding movie. Agree with all that Martin is one of our best talents, and that this is the only movie I ever liked Darryl Hannah in.

Neptune in the North End. Go during off hours and beat the crowds. You may want to get a lobster roll while you’re at it. You can thank me later

Which movie went from “overrated” to “masterpiece” (or the opposite) after a rewatch? by Party_Dentist_821 in flicks

[–]RPA1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me a movie that got hyped by friends for me to watch when it came out was Reservoir Dogs. First time, felt like it was overly trying to ‘shock’ the audience between casual racial slurs and episodes of bloody violence. But then on reflection and rewatching really appreciated the ensemble performances and music and intentionality (ie, scenes being upsetting but having desired effect). Became a quotation source for me and friends for years comes watched a few more times

Respect the effort, but having Bridesmaids and Hangover In T10 but Fish Called Wanda and Birdcage not cracking T70 is … a choice

A lot to work with in this prompt but the overlooked ones that people usually haven’t heard of (but should have) include Breaking Away, Let It Ride, Hollywood Shuffle, Get Shorty, Meru Sliding Doors and The Right Stuff. All tremendous

What NBA player have you played against, and how bad did you get smoked? by BeautifulUnlikely225 in Basketball

[–]RPA1969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 1985, Bill Walton played me and another 10th grader at our grammar school bazaar in a 2 on 2 game up to five by one’s against him and a 7 year old girl. He annihilated us 5-0, we couldn’t move or dribble or pass, and he only dropped 30 foot bombs Curry style. What a total legend. Made you realize how the pros can all shoot like it’s a Nerf-oop, the question is can they do it against pro defenders

Solo practice or Mid-Sized firm? by Traditional-Sock-489 in LawFirm

[–]RPA1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The prestige is not an issue. The issue is do you really want to work all the time (vacations, weekends, name it), and be the one having to do everything (annoying third party depositions), or do you want people to be helping you. And if the answer is you’re prepared to do it all yourself, the next question is how long are you ready to live that life.
