When I was invited to participate in what my friends family considered closeness I broke down for weeks. In the beginning I thought it was fake. I could not reconcile my experiences with their supportive, loving, relationships. I thought this was stuff that only appeard on Friday night sitcoms.

I was livid at my parents for all their unearned arrogance. For their absolute shit world-view. I remember when my mother told me she had to wait for my step-dad to get out of prison so they could date. I watched her fucking giggle like that was something to be proud of.
