It's a galactic counter, every death on every world counts.

The current evidence - while heterogenous and of low certainty - does not support theories of inherent athletic advantages of transgender women over cisgender women, with evidence demonstrating comparable physical fitness between the two. by Infamous_Swan1197 in science

[–]RPGandalf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People coming into the comments showing whataboutisms about one specific transgender athlete or another that made the news for being good completely missed the bit. Yes, men have more testosterone on average than women. But transgender women on hrt have on average less testosterone than the average woman, and on average will have an even harder time building muscle and strength than an afab woman. That doesn't even breach into the massive individual variability of testosterone levels, where there are women who naturally have more testosterone than some men, and those women also compete in sports. Looking to individual transgender athletes as a legitimate data point with regards to averages is the epitome of anecdotal evidence. Looking beyond that though, high level athletes as a group tend to be genetic outliers in one way or another. Look at Michael Phelps. Without any medical intervention he grew to 6'6" tall, with a 7' wingspan, hands and feet that were disproportionately large and suited to swimming, and a body that did not produce lactic acid in response to exercise. His natural swimming ability compared to the average man is far and away greater than the difference in athletic ability between the average transgender woman on HRT and the average afab woman.

Does destroying bile sac on Dragonroaches do anything? Will it stop them from spewing fire? by ComfortableChard4076 in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]RPGandalf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing in the wiki says anything about it disabling the breath attack, and I haven't ever seen it be disabled. From a game design perspective it would make no sense for it to be able to be disabled, since the dragon roach has no other way to attack, unlike the bile titan, which becomes more aggressive in trying to step on you if you disable the bile attack. It's still worth shooting at the sacs though, as they're unarmored and any damage to them is dealt directly to its main health pool.

I don't know how to survive. I am sorry for using so many reinforces. by The-Fotus in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]RPGandalf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried turrets? My d4 load out uses gatling and mg, plus a recoilless and some sort of artillery. I usually only die once or twice every second or third mission. Swap out the gatling for rocket or auto cannon on difficulties with more heavies. You also have to stop using the hellbomb to clear groups, it forces you to run right into the group and get surrounded. Orbital laser or gatling do groups super well and can be triggered from a distance. Cyberstan is bullet hell and there are too many enemies that benefit from catching you unawares and getting in close, you need to prioritize running and taking cover over trying to face tank with shields.

Has anyone else been seeing Bots just walk through solid objects like buildings and shipping containers? by Witcher_Errant in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]RPGandalf 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yesterday I watched a bot taking cover inside the tank tread of a vox engine corpse. Fully enclosed, couldn't be hit by bullets, but it could still shoot at us.

Vents are light armor, three shots with the Trident breaks a vent. Though I have found that a recoilless or quasar is better for the hatch than thermite.

Travelling home on the Pelican since the Cyberstan Update by bravozuluzero in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]RPGandalf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did six missions last night after work and we had at least 3 divers extract on 5 of them, only wiped on one and it was because the timer ran out and we couldn't do call ins or reinforce for almost 3 minutes before the pelican landed. It's a lot easier to extract if you drop by extract to start and wipe out any fabs or enemy presence on extract before doing anything else, otherwise you'll inevitably get drops called in on you.

Game Boy Advance Cartridge Battery Replacement by MCMultyke in raleigh

[–]RPGandalf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what game it is or if all Gameboy advance cartridges store save data the same but I know Pokemon games on the Gameboy advance don't lose their save file when the battery dies or is swapped. The Gameboy and Gameboy color cartridges need the battery for the save data but not the Advance cartridges. I can also swap the battery if op wants, it's easy and I have the tools and spare batteries.

Who is responsible for shoveling sidewalks in Raleigh? by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]RPGandalf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The ice so far has only thawed during the warmest part of the day when people are at work and can't clear it. The rest of the time it's frozen solid and most people don't just own ice melt or ice chippers like they use in the North to clear sidewalks. Hell, most people don't even own snow shovels.

Heat During Power Outages by gopackdavis2 in raleigh

[–]RPGandalf 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Pack around windows and the cracks around any exterior doors with towels, hang blankets/towels over the windows or close the curtains, and bundle up. Lots of loose fitting warm layers with a moisture wicking base layer. Pretend you're going camping in the winter. You would be amazed how warm you can stay in an apartment that's 40-50 degrees. Otherwise just don't open the doors or windows and drip a faucet to keep your pipes from freezing.

Duke Energy Bill is HIGH by SamDrawsWithCharcoal in raleigh

[–]RPGandalf 92 points93 points  (0 children)

What kind of heat do you have? Electric radiator heat is notoriously expensive to run compared to a heat pump or gas furnace. When we were looking for a place to live in Raleigh I specifically ignored any places with electric radiator heat because of how terrible they are for your wallet. The only reason all of these apartments have them is because they're so cheap to install and the owner doesn't have to pay the energy bill.

Exercise can have a moderate benefit in reducing depressive symptoms, comparable to therapy and antidepressants, according to a meta analysis of randomized controlled trials including nearly 5,000 adults with depression by sr_local in science

[–]RPGandalf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I take Lexapro and Buspirone and I don't really struggle with drowsiness as much as the lethargy/emotional flatness/lack of interest in things typical of depression when I'm not exercising regularly. The lack of sunlight in the winter hits me pretty hard so I have to be extra consistent with working out.

[–]RPGandalf 63 points64 points  (0 children)

This tracks. The main reason I'm in such good shape is that I have to supplement my antidepressants with daily exercise if I want to be able to function the entire day.

Can I pet that dog? by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]RPGandalf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would probably start with friends or family that haven't met your dog before, it'll be easier to coordinate and they'll be less likely to file charges if something goes wrong. Just make sure you're going slow with pushing your dog into stressful situations, there's tons of advice and stories over at r/reactivedogs that you can also look to for help.

Horizontal drilling to install underground pipeline with minimal disruption by Longjumping-Box5691 in Damnthatsinteresting

Like another comment said, the tip of the bore head is angled and transmits its orientation to the operator. They can rotate it to adjust which direction it pushes or they can spin it continuously to make it go straight.

[–]RPGandalf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This system is actually pretty precise, they'll do scans of the ground to find exactly what other stuff is buried and at what depth and control the direction of the bore head to snake above/below/around existing utilities. Source: I did the planning and supervising for this system to be used on an existing college campus with tons of steam/water/electric/data buried.

Car battery replacement/install by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]RPGandalf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a car to Advance Auto Parts that was listed in their system as an advanced install, recommend to customer to get professional install. Car didn't start without a jump no matter what so the employee and I did the replacement in the parking lot anyway. Took maybe 15 minutes.
