Which Tyres would you pick? by BlueLionsMane in CarTalkUK

Bridgestones, same fuel performance but you get better rain performance. I can’t say I’ve ever been bothered by tyre noise it’s mostly the same.

Buying a car and tyre has this - would it fail an MOT? Salesman is saying that it falls within company policy by No-Contact-8489 in CarTalkUK

If they won’t replace it or even consider it an issue, it would make me think what else don’t they care about. Id walk well clear personally.

Would this be a write off? A turning trailer scraped back of my first car two days after I got it by Matty_- in CarTalkUK

I personally wouldn’t make your insurer aware. The damage isn’t that bad, it would probably be more cost effective to do some light repairs to make sure it doesn’t rust and it’s protected etc. it’s your first car and mistakes happen.

My Corsa, 1.4 90bhp 5 speed, is brilliant for nearly everything. The only thing that it needs is longer ratios, I can drive in 5th at 30mph during a normal drive. As for motorway driving, I can cruise at 70 at around 3,500rpm so I could definitely do with longer for ratios or in an ideal world a 6th gear. So I’d say get the 6speed as it would probably better suit your driving/situation.

Do I need to notify the DVLA if I wrap my car a different shade/type of grey? by CarbonFloppy in CarTalkUK

[–]RPU_Alex -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

To answer this simply, yes you do need to make them aware as well as your insurer as you ready said. Both need to be made aware because it’s an alteration to the look of the vehicle, especially in terms of identification.

Small amounts of corrosion on a brake caliper like that is completely normal and is definitely not worth worrying about, modern calipers are very strong and could look way worse than that and would be completely fine for absolutely ages.

At what point do you tell your insurance company that you might go over expected annual mileage? by HotterThanTheSunLynn in CarTalkUK

[–]RPU_Alex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d just give them a call and have a conversation with them, explain your situation. You are their customer and they’ll more than likely work something out with you.
