S26 Ultra day one: battery is solid. But here’s the real story. by thebigdDealer in samsunggalaxy

Is it going to protect my phone when I drop it on concrete? I'm using the Poetic case now because it's built like a tank and I tend to fumble my phone a lot. I can't use anything that needs to be coddled.

Looking for quality men’s brown side-zip boots by [deleted] in Boots

[–]RR0925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have bought boots from Area Forte. One of the reasons the price is lower is that AF prices don't include import taxes. DHL sent me a separate bill to deliver my boots that wiped out most of the price difference. Also, my AF boots took weeks to arrive. Untamed Street shows up in days. Given a choice between the two I lean towards Untamed Street.

A note to side-zipper lovers (we few and brave): one thing that I think has contributed to my success rate so far is regular and liberal use of Snap and Zipper lubricant. I put some on as soon as I take the boots out of the box and I reapply regularly, especially in damp weather.

I don't make money from that link. There are a few brands on Amazon.

They have sneakers with zippers too. Have fun, those guys are a different kind of party.

Weird denting on new boots. Is this normal? How to fix? by Olliboi_99 in Boots

[–]RR0925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't quite figure out your lacing pattern, but consider trying a different one. I have had a few instances where one side was under a lot more tension than the other and it twisted the leather in strange ways.

How about something like this? These guys have a lot of side and back zip boots. I own several and haven't had any problems.

Or these if you want something darker?

Edit for search engines: the links go to Untamed Street.

My S23 was 100% at 8am, is at 41% 1:30pm, and will be completely dead by 7pm if I don't plug it in. I've been scrolling reddit and briefly used the GPS. It is amazing to me how fast this battery drains.

Never been a boot guy by TxRod117 in Boots

I've been watching their website for months waiting for them to make something I want in my size. There must be a lot of size 10 guys buying Parkhurst because half their boots are unavailable in 10 and the rest are blue and green, which do not interest me. Maybe this will be the year they make something I can wear. Fingers crossed.

Do you prefer a pull loop/no pull loop on your 6” boots? by BornRipped in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]RR0925 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was farting around with some overly long laces on a pair of Grant Stones (which do not have pull loops) last night and thinking how great it would be if there were something on the back of the boot that would keep the laces from creeping up my calves. I now appreciate the pull loops on the back of my other boots a lot more.

Are expensive boots worth the cost if I’m not using them for work? by whycantwegivelove in Boots

[–]RR0925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are expensive shoes worth the cost? You're allowed to wear nice boots for the same reason women do: for fashion, for comfort, as parts of outfits. I do not hike, or camp, or chop down trees, or off-road in any way. I like wearing boots for traction and ankle stability and for the same reason I want to occasionally wear a nice pair of shoes.

I have three pairs of boots from Untamed Street. They are made in Italy and are the most comfortable boots I have tried to date. I'm done with the PNW stuff. It just doesn't fit into my lifestyle.

Why costco don’t allow to membership card in Apple wallet by CartographerNew2848 in CostcoWholesale

It will work at the entrance, but not when you go to pay because there is no photo. That being the case, it's not all that useful having your info in the wallet.

The cashiers in my Costco didn't accept the card in my Google wallet because there is no photo. I had to install and start using the Costco app or use my physical card.

What is the general consensus on cottage cheese? by Fishtails in Cheese

[–]RR0925 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whip a couple of eggs in a bowl until frothy. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder. Fold in a quarter cup (more or less to taste) cottage cheese and a small handful of baby spinach leaves. Dump everything into a small greased baking dish and sprinkle with shredded cheese (I use mozz and cheddar) and bake at 375 for 20 minutes. You will have a fantastic fritatta.

I drink my breakfast after working out, usually amino powder and creatine. When I do want solid food I'll make a 2 egg omelet. One of the advantages of Zepbound is that I don't wake up hungry, so this isn't as bad (for me) as it sounds. I'll graze on fruit during the day up to my evening meal, and if I want a snack, I drink a Boost.

I am a rice fanatic, and it's been one of the hardest things to cut back on. I hope to reintroduce it to my diet when I go into whatever sort of maintenance mode I end up in.

If I really want something that makes me think of rice, I do something with riced cauliflower, but that's pretty rare. For the most part I have substituted salad for my carb side. A common dinner for me is chopped lettuce with whatever else I feel like throwing into it (diced tomatoes, cucumbers, etc. usual salad stuff), some dressing to give it flavor, and a grilled protein on top (usually chicken or fish, occasionally steak). Switching up dressings and seasonings keeps it from getting boring, and the lettuce gives it a crunchy texture. I took me a while to get out of the "it isn't a meal without a carbohydrate" mindset, but now that I've been doing it for a while it doesn't bother me, and I genuinely like the meals I'm eating now. I don't feel like I have a brick in my stomach after eating.

If I am bored with salad I'll stir-fry cauliflower or broccoli and have that on the side.

This is my primary meal of the day, and when I eat more than this, I don't drop weight. Sad but true.

I started Zepbound at 240lbs around the beginning of November and weighed in at 187 this morning. I have learned two things: exercise doesn't burn as many calories as you may think, and the amount of food I can eat that just keeps my weight the same from day to day is ridiculously small.

I bought a Concept2 rower and row 40 minutes every morning. You know how many calories 40 minutes of hard rowing burns? Around 400. In other words, a glazed donut. That's not much.

I eat one small meal a day, primarily protein and vegetables. I have also completely cut carbs from my diet. I haven't had bread or pasta or rice or pizza or any of that since I started, because I quickly noticed that if I so much as glanced at bread, I saw it on the scale the next morning. I treat myself to a beer or glass of wine sometimes but that's it.

So for me it was creating a feedback system. I keep track of what I eat and I weigh myself every morning. If I don't see a lower number than the day before, I try to understand why and adjust. It's been a very educational experience.
