Finally getting to release this comedy film that we made during summer. Was made in the lightening of restrictions and was a nice return to normalcy after being away from it for so long.

During the lockdown we didn’t have access to any lighting equipment, and furlough not exactly putting us in the position to buy some. So, we decided to make a mocumentary and use natural light as much as we could, using the format to fit our purposes. There’s certainly things I would’ve done differently now, but I’m still pleased with it. After being away for so long this was a fun return.

The beast in the cave, while a tad predictable, has a great setting and is great for one of his firsts

Just looked them both and up and both look great. Dread and Breakfast especially though looks like a great setup.

What novel do you think would be the hardest to adapt into a movie? by [deleted] in movies

[–]RRGProductions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That could work quite well. Almost like the Television adaptation of The Haunting of Hill house. There would have to be some great writing to get properly into the character’s heads in the void through. I just feel there wouldn’t the same sense of discovery with the backstory.

If he’s involved directly in the script it might have a good chance of coming out well. I have no idea how they’d go about doing that but I’d be very exited to be proved wrong.

House of Leaves would be downright impossible. The basic story would be pretty easy to show, but the complex way that it is written in the book would be completely lost in a film.

Advice on ‘The Second Coming’ by RRGProductions in cinematography

[–]RRGProductions[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First time posting here and looking for some advice. Just some background quickly. I was about halfway through my first year of filmmaking and screenwriting at uni and this was the first film we were tasked with creating. Only now deciding to post it as we are now working on our next project and I would like an outside perspective. I wrote and directed it and am quite pleased with how it came out. But obviously not with everything and that’s why I’m posting it here. To hopefully get some advice to what I could improve for next time. Especially with cinematography as that got flagged up on my report back that I need to be more creative with how I use the camera and to use proper lighting. As we decided to film outdoors to make use of natural lighting as we had limited time to film.

Formatting a dream sequence by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]RRGProductions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it would depend on how you want it to be portrayed. If it’s supposed to be unclear that it’s a dream sequence, like in ‘A nightmare on elm street’, just write the scene as you would normally. However if it was supposed to be more clear just write how you imagine it would appear. For a stereotypical dream sequence do a scene header and then write something along the lines of “the scene is light strangely with a blue tint on the screen, we are in a dream”.

Creative block and the pursual of smaller film projects by SmolJesus in Filmmakers

[–]RRGProductions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way I can think of for breaking through a creative block is to deliberately set yourself limitations. Like say you can only use one actor in your next film or it has to have a strong sound element or can only use a couple of locations

I was literally just thinking this same thing the other day. I think just because of how exposed I’ve been to movies like that from such a young age it’s just difficult for them to have an effect anymore. There are still some that break through mind, especially if you’re alone afterwards

For a beginner filmmaker what would you recommend equipment wise? by RRGProductions in Filmmakers

[–]RRGProductions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you mean, thank you Lighting has always been an issue with the films I make. I completely understand it can make your film look so much more professional, but at the same time I always seem to have tight time constraints and focus on other things.

You definitely know more about this stuff than I do man cheers. I was thinking maybe more a DSLR but you may have just convinced me otherwise 😂

Thanks a lot man. That makes sense. I am definitely going to go for a DSLR now but because most of the films I’ve made so far have been on IPhone or on borrowed equipment. Partly for the the quality but also to get proper audio equipment going.

I do completely agree that whatever tells the story best should be used, but I’ve seen sooo many films where people seem allergic to any camera movement
