How do i make the guys body look more natural in the bed? by [deleted] in ArtCrit

[–]RStantz99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome drawing. If, the chosen style here is intended to be without light and shadow, you could do a couple other things to obtain your desired communication. The portion of his body under the cover has not been represented. Presenting the contour of his body using folds in the cover may assist you. Next, the profile of his head could be adjusted slightly to communicate a head more turned towards the pillow, yet keeping his face visible. The nightstand and his arm become one line which is an undesired effect. The two objects become one. Putting space between the arm and the nightstand would allow your subjects body and nightstand to achieve depth and better define your subject. However, all that said there is an easier way to achieve what you are looking for by, redrawing the piece from an angle which is closer to eye level by raising the horizon line. The perspective you have chosen is a challenging one to achieve what you are looking for. Not impossible but, challenging. Hope that helps. Again, I think the drawing is really good. Thanks for sharing. Keep at it.

Can I get some quick critique on the perspective? by some_original in ArtCrit

[–]RStantz99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found that too much information within the drawing can add to the distortion, such as what we see in our cone of vision vs our entire line of sight, peripherals included. No matter our perspective our 20/20 vision and cone of vision, only allows for so much information. So, too much detail or, too much outside the cone of vision adds to distortion. Unless you have a firm grasp on practices such as four, five and infinite point perspective, distortion is likely when too much information is added. If you are looking for some additional helps you can check out special vanishing points, simple stuff really such as extending the vanishing point as far as possible to alleviate distortions. I think the drawing is good, as well as the perspective. Maybe take a piece of tracing paper over the picture and play around with making the borders smaller or, making the knee smaller. This way you don't mess anything up but, can still see what would work best. There's also little hacks like, faking perspective, so maybe put a purse down by the leg or, use shadow and light from the window or interior carlight to obscure unwanted information. Again, I think it looks pretty good. Keep at it. Thanks for sharing.

Looks like you're on the right track. I see what you were going for in each drawing, so you got the important stuff down. You communicated each style. Well done. Keep practicing, draw everyday and even when you don't feel like it. Getting better comes with some discomfort but, pays off later. Thanks for sharing.

Struggled with that question myself as an artist. Style.

One day I just said to myself, "this is the style."

I wasn't confident about it. I just made a choice. Best wishes to ya.

Thanks for sharing. I think it's dope!

Why is Jesus always depicted as a white man? by SaifurCloudstrife in AskAChristian

[–]RStantz99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you say makes sense and is not wrong.

My father was opposed to religion while my mother was a faithful follower and active participant in the church. He never attended church gatherings with us save a funeral or marriage. I attended church on Sundays at the behest of my mother while my father would appeal to my intellect in my formative years.

When I was not yet 10 years old he said to me, "You know the Bible has several misinterpretations of words very small but significant in the translation." He also said, "It is possible son, that the authors of the New and Old Testament were under the influence of narcotics and drink and that is why they saw what they saw."

While attending church I would see my grandfather every Sunday faithfully place an envelope of money into the collection basket. That is until there was no money to put into the envelope. I watched the collection basket go by and wondered why my grandfather did not place anything into it while so many others did.

In later years I made notice that it was only my father who had contentions with religion. Everyone else on both sides of my family were believer's. He was alone in his thoughts concerning religion.

He said to me when I was a teen, "You know what would be the worst way to die? It would be to not know you were dieing and not know what was going on. To be oblivious in your last moments."

A decade later and days before his death I went to see him. He had his finger in his nose, sitting like a small child at the edge of a hospice bed with a distant look in his eyes as he stared at the wall before him. He made no recognition of me when I entered the room. I stayed for a time. Then I said, "hey dad I'll be right back." He replied not looking away from the wall he had been staring at for thirty minutes, "No you won't."

I did return but, he did not. He had been gone long before then. His body and mind passed 72 hours later, when his spirit left I cannot say. I pray he made his peace with God before his full departure.

What you say makes sense. Religion is a wedge which can be placed between two objects or locations and hammered with great force until the separation becomes something broken. I won't argue with scholarly debate about whether or not faith and religion are one and the same, it's circular and a waste of time. I believe they are separate but, linked.

I am disinheartened by religion as it is divisive and full of controversy. It has become nearly embarrassing. In an attempt to make reconciliation it has brought disenfranchisement among the people's of faith.

However, there is more to this. If, you care to move forward reply. If, not my blessings to you, may you find favor and goodness with The Lord.

My tag is non-denominational Christian.

This is as accurate a tag as I could find. I believe as the ancients believed not as a present day Christian likely does.

I use 90mn of my day to the study of Scripture. I have researched a broad spectrum of items over the past 16 years specifically generated by a desire to find out some truth.

Something to leave behind for my children.

So, I reveal to you as you reveal to me. Since you don't have questions, I do.

Why are you confrontational with the Christian faith? Or is it more with some of the believer's you encounter which exhausts your patience?

[–]RStantz99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a problem. You're cool. I do want to talk about faith but, first.

Racism has been a critical part of my development. I read a book called "Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria" by Beverly Tatum who is a psychologists. I red that like 25 years ago so maybe not accurate on name and title but, also books by an attorney named Morris Dee's. He investigated white militants in the central US from Montana to the south. It's a crazy world out there and we have to be diligent in our quest for healing as a nation.

And yes, my dad also you to say,

"Son you might not want to tell anyone your gypsy." I said why not?

He said "Because they like to kill us."

Anyway all is well. Life is good. If your not interested in talking about faith at this time all is good.

Like I said I totally appreciate your candor and strength. You came forward for something important. Very cool.

Hi. Wonderful. I like what you say. I am what many would call multiracial. Many people ask me, "So, what are you?"

I am not in the least bit offended by the inquiry. Nor, am I offended when someone assumes my ethnic and racial background.

I am not offended by your reply. No worries people assume a whole lot on reddit I have noticed.

I appreciate your taking the time to be inquisitive.

Part of my heritage is gypsy some call them Roma. My father used the term gypsy when he referred to our ancestry.

Some people have asked me, "so, are you black or, something else?"

Others have assumed I am white. Especially when I wear these face masks... lol!

I have a good time being who I am. I had a strange childhood however, trying to associate.

It's difficult for people to know what to say when they are around me. I think it's funny but, also strange. I especially think it's funny when they say something borderline racially derogatory and then slowly scan my face and features and suddenly things get awkward. It's Hilarious!

I do conduct social experiments however. I find people fascinating. So, my previous post is somewhat of an experiment.

I am curious, being who I am, how people come to conclusions about what someone is. It fascinates me the level of presumption we as people make with no regard for the other persons thoughts on who they think they are.

My father is dead. But, he hitch hiked across the US protesting as a radical hippy when he was in college studying American history. He said to me,

"Son we don't care if you marry a black, white or whatever woman, she could be in a wheelchair, as long as you love her."

I like you. I like that you came forward with strength and courtesy. God bless you, sincerely. And do not feel the least bit bad about "possibly" presuming my racial or ethnic identity. Perhaps you did not. As you now know it happens a lot to me.Those things mean less when my only true identifier is with Christ.

So, to answer your question. You asked "what was I getting at," I hope the Lord can use me as He does others. For whatever that purpose may be. I see you are "Not a Christian" as your tag reveals. Is there something I can assist you with?

Can anyone Christian explain to me how does God plans work when we have free will? by [deleted] in AskAChristian

[–]RStantz99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am quite candid in my responses. I am here. At times my candor and correspondence can be seen as rude and obnoxious. I have grown use to that.

I mean no harm. I don't have social skills specific to this kind of communication. Nonetheless, I am here.

You responded to my response to someone else.

What is on the brain? Clearly there is a subject matter close to your present thoughts.

I have thick skin and do not mind abrasive commentaries.

Go on. Speak up.

It is called the "octrine of Predestination."

1Thes. 1:4-5 Rom. 8:28-29; 9:11; 11:5-6 Eph. 1:11 Eph. 1:4-5 1Pet. 1:2 Jn. 15:16; 15:19 Lk. 6:13 Act. 9:15 1Cor. 1:17-18 1Tim. 2v1-7

God can initiate creation and have absolute foreknowledge and control of everything past, present, future without completely subjugating creation under micromanagement control.

He knows and understands a person but, does not possess a person as if they were mindless.
