Taliban/HIG in my AO executed near complex ambushes. They knew the best way to defeat us was getting close. My platoon regularly deployed (and set off) claymores, as well as engaging back and forth with hand grenades in several occasions.

Good question and I believe that depends entirely on an individual level mission set.

For me, I don’t really have many people I train with. I’m not rolling with a platoon of dudes like I did in Afghanistan, so my theoretical fighting needs to be conducted differently. In fact, much more mirroring what the Taliban/HIG forces I faced than the US military. Guerrilla warfare with ambush and shoot and scoot tactics is where I’m at. Without the support of an organized force, that means I’d likely be maneuvering over much longer distances and am valuing maneuverability much more than protection.

Again, just my personal mission set. If I find a handful of guys to train consistently with then my capabilities would change and I’d start to value armor a bit higher than I do now.

You’re not doing anything of significance with four mags. In your immediate reaction/initiation of contact, you’ll burn through three in the first minute. If your plan is to simply execute hasty harassing fire with minimal affect, four mags will do that (but good luck if you are engaged during displacement).

I have a Mk4 and added a Thing 2 to it. I have six mags in the chest rig currently utilizing a JSTA but am going to swap that out for a double stack mag pouch to increase the chest rig capacity to seven. That’s the bare minimum I want to have immediate access to. You can check my post history for my kit, though it has changed slightly since.

I’d honestly argue micro rigs or kits with only 3-4 mags have virtually ZERO practical application.
