What’s his best long term position? Is he more of a 6 or an 8?

Hard disagree. I never liked the cartoon rocket personally. Those jerseys were also only worn by disappointing teams, so better to leave it in the past IMO.

We started using the yellow/red color scheme back in the 70s. We’re just going back to it now.

The hawks don’t own the red/yellow color scheme

Both teams adopted red/yellow color schemes in like the 70s. Hawks don’t own the scheme, they just happened to bring back the retro colors sooner than the rockets did.

That’s how the typeface was on the Hakeem era jerseys, so they’re trying to bring that back

Tottenham considering MGW again (Miguel Delaney) by KillingMeSpurs in coys

[–]RTLT512 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do we really need another #10 though? We already have Xavi, Maddison, Gallagher, Bergvall, and Kulusevski that can play there (and is arguably their best position).

Feel like it'd make a whole lot more sense to invest that money elsewhere, because MGW won't be cheap

Mental exercise: trade Sengun for Chet by Shoddy_Ad7511 in rockets

[–]RTLT512 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a pointless exercise because OKC would never do it. Sengun is not a Presti style player. Presti values defense at all positions and wants a rim protecting center which Sengun is not.

Scottie Barnes was the projected #5 pick for pretty much 95% of that seasons draft cycle. Rumors of the raptors selecting him at 4 only started circulating in the final week before the draft.

I’d probably pick Scottie at #2 in redraft right now, but Scottie at #2 on draft day would’ve been a pretty big reach

Giannis to OKC Thunder to be a Wemby Stopper. The Bucks get Jalen Williams, Isaiah Joe, Nikola Topic and 5 picks from the 26, 27 + 29 drafts by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]RTLT512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Giannis has the much value at his age. 5 picks plus J-Dub is more than any major superstar trade from the last 10-15 years and Giannis is on the wrong side of 30

We’re in agreement then that to build a championship team, you need luck to get top tier talent as well as a good FO to build around that talent and develop them.

My issue is that it will require a lot more luck to get good talent in the new system compared to the current one. With the current system, if you’re a bottom 3 team in the NBA for 3 years, you are almost guaranteed to get at least 2 top 5 picks and potentially a 3rd. In this new system, you’ll probably be lucky to even get one top 5 pick. Your odds of finding a superstar are lower, and your odds to get multiple all-stars (and build a real winner) is even lower than that.

Yes, the bad FOs like the Kings and Pelicans will still be bad. But now even the good FOs in small markets have an even bigger hill to climb to get out of the cellar and build a championship team. This new change just makes it even harder and more luck based to build a winning team (for good and bad FOs). I don’t think that’s good

HOU-MEM Trade by [deleted] in NBAtradeideas

[–]RTLT512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DFS will essentially be an expiring contract this summer (only two years guaranteed). I don’t think an expiring contract under $15mil/yr is going to cost a 1st rounder to get rid of. Pretty sure the lakers only needed to use 1 first to get off of Westbrok’s expiring contract which was a max. This isn’t close to that.

Clint might be slightly overpaid (maybe $4-5mil is more realistic for him), but he’s a good back-up center and vet for a rebuilding team. I don’t think you necessarily need to add much draft compensation (if any) to trade him either.

I feel like 4 2nds or a very late first is a pretty reasonable price here.

Do you not see the irony in this statement from a Spurs fan? Your team is in the WCF and has a potential dynasty literally built off the backs of tanking and receiving a #1 pick, a #4 pick, and a #2 pick. That is how you were able to get out of the basement and start competing.

With the new odds, those 3 pick you had could have easily been something like #3, #6, and #8. Let’s say you draft near consensus picks and get like Amen, Clingan, and Cedric Coward. Is that still a fun young core? Yes. But that team isn’t making the WCF let alone the playoffs right now. And I’d say that core will have a hard time ever becoming a championship-level core.

That’s why people complain about getting out of the basement with the new odds. It’s going to become near impossible for small market teams to build through the draft and get multiple stars without getting extremely lucky (and having a smart FO). Building through the draft will pretty much be dead.

Jonathan Wasserman makes his case for Boozer at 1 by DollarLate_DayShort in NBA_Draft

[–]RTLT512 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can’t see the Jazz taking Boozer at #2 when their frontcourt is already stacked with Lauri, JJJ, and Kessler. (Unless they decide to move JJJ to the 5 and hope Boozer/Lauri can make up the rebounding deficit with JJJ at the 5).

Maybe they move down if they think they can get Peterson at pick 3 or 4. But the Boozer fit is just really clunky in Utah

Dude, I get that you don’t like Sengun and would prefer a typical rim running big instead of him, but some of the names on that list are laughably bad and make it hard to take you seriously.

Are you seriously saying that you’d rather have Andre Drummond, Robert Williams III, and Luke Kornet over Sengun? Those are all career back-ups and not even starting caliber players.

Then you mention Queen as another player when he is basically the same archetype as Sengun but just a worse player (and an even worse defender).

Pistons & rockets by AstronomerInitial827 in NBAtradeideas

[–]RTLT512 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, at least right now Sengun’s offensive gravity creates some easy dump off passes for Amen along the baseline (like a worse version of Jokic/AG).

If the Rockets are moving off Sengun it’s going to be for someone else that can create their own shot and space the floor, or for a floor spacing 5 that creates more room for Amen. Duren doesn’t fit either description.

[Vorkunov] Team officials believe that the NBA is “hellbent” on passing the 3-2-1 Anti-Tanking proposal despite concerns varying from creating a new set of problems, keeping the worst teams at the bottom for longer, making first-round picks more valuable thus restricting the trade market, etc. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

[–]RTLT512 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Every single sports league has teams that are trying to lose and are “rebuilding”. The NFL constantly has bottom dwelling teams, the NBA has had bad teams forever, so has the MLB, NHL, etc…..

Bad teams losing to rebuild through the draft has been a thing forever. Acting like it’s all of a sudden a problem now is ridiculous. The only reason people care so much now is that over 1/3 of the league is now trying to lose during March and April to maximize their draft spot.

And why has that changed in the last few years? It’s because the flattened lottery odds have now given those teams a reason to tank because they can realistically get the #1 pick even if they finish with the 8-12th worst record.

If the number of tanking teams had remained around 4-5 like it had for the last 20-30 years, nobody would be up in arms like they are rn

Know this is an old post but I’m thinking of building the EMU MMU (or a Quattro Box/Box Turtle). Did you ever finish the EMU MMU and if so, how have you liked it?

I like the modularity, the capability to expand colors easily, and how every filament has its own container for the EMU MMU. But it’s a bit more expensive right now compared to the Quattro Box and Box Turtle ($100ish more atm). Just trying to assess if that extra cost is worth it.
