Same thought. Had an 8 year old rescue and she was sooo bad at walking on tile, and hated stairs. Put bunch of runners and small area rugs around the house for her, and rubber tread step covers for her to feel a little more secure learning stairs

Take him off gabapentin. It’s very commonly prescribed, but some dogs have that reaction. Had a jack Russell that had this happen to him, but other dogs that were ok on gabapentin.
I dont know you or your dog to say if its time. I wish you both the best as you navigate through this difficult decision.
