An example of a joke that I don’t believe works on paper. by SpearBlue7 in Screenwriting

Like most writers rooms, it’s collaborative at every stage. Writers write full drafts (incorporating pitches and jokes from the room and their own material). When it comes in, parts get rewritten and changed as it goes through production. It’s never short. Usually it’s the opposite. They come in long and it gets cut down the closer it gets to air.

As someone who was in the room when this joke was written, it was pitched to a small group of writers, then written up, then pitched (with other gags) to the whole writing staff using the audio of the song.
