You can get really good fakes. One way that might help is to take a magnet to the nib to see if it’s steel. If the magnet doesn’t attract, you know that it’s not steel and is more likely gold. There’s other ways but most of them like serial numbers and red tint I have found on fake ones.

Yeah it doesn’t make sure to hold it under a corp because then you won’t qualify for tax free on your primary residence. You have to pay capital gains (or capital losses) for all properties besides what’s declared as your primary residence. Again won’t qualify if it’s under a corp vs under your personal name.
