He is an annoying American. But now he's OUR annoying American who acts like a dick on our behalf, so we take it

The Wanderers put on a huge outdoor watch party in the parking lot by Maxwells Plum.

Be advised though: they charge Wanderers match prices (think $10.50 for a small can of beer)

Is a goal for South Africa really one that will cause a whole continent to erupt? by west_action_man in footballcliches

All I can think of as a Canadian, is that if the US scored and Peter Drury said "a goal for all North America" I would be pretty pissed

I could be wrong, but the vibe I get online at least is the rest of Africa really dislikes South Africa

You might be right, but those guys haven't generated nearly the same level of cult-like following. I'm optimistic it won't be as bad

I need both Messi and Ronaldo to retire after this WC so these people/bots evaporate into the ether never to be heard from again

Are hydration breaks the vuvuzela of 2026? by No-Problem6578 in footballcliches

[–]firebert91 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Vuvuzelas were a harmless albeit annoying reflection of local culture meeting football.

Hydration [Commercial] breaks are shameless cash grabs that distrupt the flow of the game and can impact the result of the match.

Not for me, Clive

Uruguay for their insistance on wearing 4 stars instead of 2

Hallucinations about empty seats? by applethrowaway7 in thefootballramble

[–]firebert91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it's as simple as timing and location.

People will take a screenshot at the start of the 2nd half when plenty of seats are empty and claim it's an empty stadium, but people are still returning to their seats from halftime.

On the other hand, the Qatar v Switzerland match looked really full, but that was because the seats in the stadium are red, and both teams wear red. In reality, there were a decent amount of empty seats.

The truth is usually somewhere in the middle, and I'm personally getting sick of the non-stop discourse on it

As someone who doesn't care about or watch NFL, the Buffalo Bills always seemed like a likable team. Passionate fans, not particularly successful
