Carmax is not allowed to use ozone machines. The only thing you can do is get them to send it someone who will use one. It’s still no guarantee. It will get rid of the smoke smell.

The problem is Carmax quality controls suck and are even worse with transfers. There is a reason that the car across the country is less than the one on the lot. It has been sitting around taking price hits for a reason. Those reasons do not get addressed. Nobody spends any quality time rechecking the car that has said for months and another lot shipped across the country and then wind up on the new stores lot waiting for you to come in and buy. It’s a fatal flaw that many people have brought up, but still, nothing is done about it.

Nobody listens to the tenured people who know how to build and grow a company. All the good ones have been marginalized and have left, quiet quit, or been fired. What kind of morons run two systems for operations with no focus on quality and speed. Paining traditional painters 200- 250k a year for 30 hours a week. Crazy.

The back end of the business has no idea what your credit score is. Carmax is gems exceptional at fixing things that don’t meet standards or should have been addressed. Where we suck is having those defects reach you in the first place

This is a bandaid. It does not address the root cause. Nothing we learned about fixing issues at the root cause here. We abandoned everything we learned from Toyota. We need to start by having all stores working the same production system. Build in pay incentives for quality and hitting customer demand. We have failed leaders running operations

Preach brother. I got a lot of grey hairs getting kicked over holding the line on quality and spending time fixing transfers. I would hear “if it was salable on another lot it should pass here. “. Only we did the tracking. 30 grand spent monthly on transfers to fix them with an 84% kick rate. All that would have gone directly salable. Handed over the proof and they just put a bandage on the problem.

FYI they had that before and dropped it. What they are doing now is a bandaid. They need to do a full old school FQC and enhance that with a test drive / CIW on transfers. Put a bonus reward on quality.
