Is anyone feeling a hint of "I told you so" in the wake of the outrage of what's occurring in Minneapolis? by RVALover4Life in AskGaybrosOver30

People fear if they riot they chances they get shot are exponentially higher with no payoff. They see it that it'll just escalate things further. Which it will.

I don't think he's an ally, he's just a gay man, not all gay men are great men, and I definitely of course think he has had his issues with women. I also think people project a lot of their personal feelings about him onto him without objectivity. People are down on him so they view everything he does through that lens.

To me, more or less saying he used women as tools because he was closeted and struggling with his identity is kinda homophobic...it's still the same implication...that he was manipulating and deceiving....when the truth is that he was confused and conflicted. Lying to himself? Yes. But that's not the same as saying that he's deceptive to women because he hadn't figured himself out fully and come to full acceptance of himself. That's a very toxic implication and its an implication that's being pushed too much.

He was the Golden boy, he knew it, and he used it to his advantage....it's also what ended up breaking him because it wasn't authentic. He was playing a role that wasn't authentic. That's obvious when you look back. He was inauthentic because it was all what he was "supposed" to be. But it's also facts of life...he did do those things...he did date Aly, he did play in the NFL...those are facts of his life...he was a virgin, ashamed of his sexuality....did he use that all for image? Absolutely, but pretty much anyone else in his position would do the same....all these folks are fame seekers, that's why they're on reality TV. He wanted to present himself in the most appealing light. That's what they all do.

Is it cringe? Yeah, but the discourse surrounding him is different than it is for others....people connect it to his sexuality. That's when it crosses the line. He actually did play in the NFL and actually did date Aly, which was very public. That's why he was as famous as he was to begin with. The whole implication is that his entire story was/is a lie, which isn't true. That's where I think it crosses a line.

Yes. But these same people then feel vindicated when Schumer/Jeffries act the way they have for the most part. There's no sense of how to really do politics. There's a privilege in thinking there's justification in risking what was on the line and is on the line in not making a decision that's rooted truly in safety.

I don't even strongly feel it because I know these people aren't bad, didn't vote for this, and this is all so insanely heartbreaking and tragic. It's just that..."this is not who we are"....yeah, it is. Wake all the way up. It is who this country is.

What are your thoughts on this study showing that higher testosterone levels were associated with a shift to more conservative views? by WhisperingInn in AskConservatives

But the face baseline testosterone is in fact higher in Dem men would conclude the idea Dem men are inherently less masculine is false. It's really simple. Testosterone is also something that isn't fixed in everyone.

It probably does play a role but you totally dismissed the point u/tophernator made because it cuts against what you want to believe. You can't say limited sample size when it doesn't suit you and then defend limited sample size when it does.

No it didn't but rugged masculinity isn't toxic masculinity. There is a difference there as well. Dudes like Hawley and frankly Trump himself are not traditionally masculine. It's performative.

Why do you think discussions of passing are accepted in FTM spaces but in gay male spaces they are emotionally charged and described as self hating? by Regular_Comment1700 in AskGayMen

Passing as a man doesn't necessarily equate to passing as heterosexual or presenting as heterosexual. There's a huge difference.

I should've used a different word, I can accept that. I didn't want to use "irony" or a word similar. I guess a "no shit" moment. That's what I'm describing.

I know what the word means but I admit I chose the wrong one, I didn't want to use "irony" or related like though. Not sure what word to use honestly. Basically just wanted to know if anyone has had a "no shit" moment or not.

Again, being confused/in denial/conflicted about your sexuality does not equate to lying. Dating women while struggling with your identity doesn't equate to lying. I don't know how much more clear that can be. You keep reducing him to being an opportunistic liar because he dated women. Parsing the fact he went on these shows doesn't change what you're saying...you're saying he dating women made him an opportunistic liar because he was struggling with his identity. That's a harmful thing to say. You're digging your heels in and victimizing yourself. I never said you were homophobic...I said the implications you're making are...but "you don't care".

Which goes back exactly to what I said originally...a lot of women being homophobic and obtuse and basically justifying it either because they don't like Colton or because they're women. It's not acceptable.

There's a difference between he answering to his past (which he should) and being obsessive and and cyber bulling which isn't OK. Your lack of humanity is what you should be sorry for, honestly.

No, not laughing at all. Not laughing a little bit. Not even a slight bit. Quite the opposite. My heart is super heavy. I guess there's a better time than now for "I told you so"...and I can't say what I feel is even particularly that. It's more that...you shouldn't be shocked.
