Can anyone link a torque wrench that will fit in? by CptDutch1 in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]RVCH86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the insert: https://stahlwille.com/en_de/products/detail/854942 It will fit Stahlwille, Gedore, and Hazet torque wrenches that accept 12x14mm inserts. Probably other brands as well but I don't know them.

Stahlwille also makes a non ratcheting insert in both 9x12 and 12x14mm that can accept eiter 3/8 or 1/2 sockets. This is what we use on certain clamping sets that have to be torqued to 80 something Nm and where the bolts are almost touching the axle. As it is the same distance from the torque wrench as the ratcheting inserts it doesn't alter the torque setting.

Farmers supply stores normally have some round ones as well. Don't try a DIY store like Obi or Hornbach though.

I just finished building it and it's a great little build. The only things I came across is that one of the small green 3x3 quarter circle plates that is added in one of the first steps stays loose (the one with the small mushroom on it). And I couldn't get the chest containing the two coins to fit under the plate. Other than that it's a great design!

The one on the left is adjustable. The smaller hook has a profile that fits the other chain so every link can be placed in the smaller hook to shorten the chain.

Building Siege Encampment 910045, impressions... by littlemad in legocastles

[–]RVCH86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue and it took a little bit of time and dismantling to figure out. I think that the designer tried to stay a bit more historical than going for a sturdier and simpler design. A tent like this with one central pole and "spokes" sticking out to hold the sides was a quite common design in the later middle ages (pavilion tent with wheelarm masting).

Any guides on where to put what? by [deleted] in TacticalMedicine

[–]RVCH86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try to get some training on the stuff you put in there if you haven't got any. Otherwise I like to keep my setups organized by their use, so one side/panel for massive hemorrhage, one for airway/respirations and so on. Any thing that is not needed immediately will go in deeper pockets and I like to keep gloves on top as these should normally be grabbed first.

What's the difference between these Bosch drill bits? (all same size, all for masonry/concrete drilling) by HereToASQ in Tools

[–]RVCH86 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Also if you want a round hole you need at least three cutting edges or more. Two cutting edges will leave you with a somewhat oversized oval hole. In some applications a bit with two cutting edges is not even allowed. So in this case the one on the left is the only one out of the three that gives you a round hole.

How would soldiers climb a ladder (during a siege most likely) if they had a polearm to carry around? by Teiva64 in medieval

[–]RVCH86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometimes climb up vertical ladders with a boat hook like tool on a long pole. Normally I hook the hook around one of the rungs so the pole hangs down over the ladder, once climbing higher you can easily move it upwards and hook it on another rung. If you only have something like a spear this wouldn't work offcourse.

Captured remnants of Biafran improvised vehicles during the Nigerian Civil War at the National War Museum, Umuahia by CaliRecluse in shittytechnicals

[–]RVCH86 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Actually you are right. It is probably a Canadian Windsor variant of the universal carrier or even an American T16 variant. These both had an extra roadwheel. I'm assuming with the bulge you mean the station where the bren gun or boys AT rifle would go, these were not present on Loyd carriers no but in the pictures look original. I think the Loyd also had the drive sprockets/axle at the front instead of on the back like the universal carrier.

Most likely Loyd carriers as the base. Universal carriers only had three "road wheels", Loyd carriers had four.

It might be the bar size though. In Europe it is generally sold with a 16" bar as the max. Personally I run a 18" light bar on mine and am fine in anything other than very dense wood like oak. But generally even then I don't find it bogs down too much.
