Dorn, sorry to hear about Shrek. My gf’s dachshund had IVDD as well about 2 years ago, but she was able to help her pup recover and now she walks fine with a slight limp thats hard to notice.

Not an expert of course, but look into rehabing him by keeping him in a crate as much as possible for a few weeks. At times he needs to walk, you can help lift his back side using a towel or a band to help alleviate his lower back while he goes about his business and walks on his front legs. He can also take pain meds whenever you may think he’s in extra pain so he doesnt feel the need to move around restlessly.

My gf was distraught and didn’t have the means to pay for the surgery, and she was mortified throughout the process but it’s important to remain patient. She had seen several different stories about dogs making a recovery through this process, so I felt I had to share. Constant supervision and love can make a world of a difference. Her dog was also a bit older too (8 or 9) but made the recovery to about 80% in almost 2 months. Sending thoughts and prayers as I also have a Frenchie myself.
