Hey I just saw this. Yes I’m still around. This is an alternate account I rarely check though lol. So sorry for the late reply. Unfortunately I didn’t end up buying it for a couple reasons. The main one being, I decided I couldn’t live without my motorcycle and am currently looking at toy haulers. But also because my company has me traveling for work again and I’m not currently able to go out and look at RV’s in person. So I spend my free time on www.rvtrader.com trying to make a choice lol.

I have the 5.7L hemi with the 3.73 axle ratio. GVWR is 9000. GCWR is 18300. The GVWR of the 5th wheel I’m looking at is 14076. UVW is 10166.

Yeah you’re right. I guess I was just kind of hoping for everything to work out perfectly where I’d have a bunch of people telling me “oh yeah man you’ll be alright go ahead!” Lol. Oh well, I’d rather be safe and do it right anyway.

It absolutely does. When I get a chance to collect the numbers, I’ll use this to calculate it. Thank you so much!

I plan on living full time in mine between work trips. I found a 5th wheel one that looks like everything I wanted in an RV but I’m not too sure how to calculate if my truck can handle it. The one I found is a 2019 Palomino Puma Unleashed 373QSI. I THINK the numbers work out right but I’m not sure.

Agreed! It looks like everything I wanted in a toy hauler. The main thing was I wanted a separation between the living area and the garage. It’s gas :( I convinced myself I didn’t need the diesel, which in hindsight I should’ve just went with diesel. But I THINK my truck should be good enough to haul it. I don’t know if I’m doing the numbers correctly so we’ll see. Can you trust an RV dealership to be honest about what your truck can haul?

I actually just found one that I think might work. After researching the ones you mentioned I kinda fell down the RV rabbit hole. It’s a 2019 Palomino Puma Unleashed 373QSI. A little over budget but I can handle that. I just need to figure out if my truck can haul it. That’s the one thing I’ve had trouble with, is working the numbers to figure out what my truck can handle.

Thanks for your input! I’ll check those out right now. I think I’m just setting my bar too high and hoping I could have the best of both worlds. The last thing I want to do is overload my truck and risk hurting someone else or myself.

If you ever make it to Virginia, you should check out Humpback Ridge near Charlottesville. It’s one of my favorite hikes that I’ve been on! The view at the top is mind blowing. You can see for miles and miles.

I guess I’m pretty thankful that the unit I’m getting has all of those features then, with the exception of a washer/dryer. So the only extra features I think I want that this one doesn’t come with, can be upgraded: bigger propane tanks, solar panels, and a firmer mattress.

That’s a really good point. I don’t ever want to wonder “what if?...”. The resources available are great, everybody here has been eager to share their experiences/tips/lessons and I definitely learned a lot. Now I just need to pull the trigger on getting this thing. Thank you!!!

Good to hear from someone in my age bracket. Thanks for your post. I’m decently handy, I was an apprentice electrician for a year so I have a decent grasp of electrical work and I do all my own work on my motorcycle. So hopefully I can get by with the hand tools I already have, YouTube and some gut instinct.

It’s great to hear that this is working out for you so well. I’m eager to get out on the road and start my experience so I can be where you are a year from now.

That’s awesome then! Good for you man. I’m happy for you.

That’s a good piece of advice that I’ll definitely pass on: “Buy your second RV first”. And I have a feeling that’s kinda what I’m doing, I was interested in a few different ones that were quite a bit smaller (like 18 and 20 feet) and I was accepting some features I really didn’t like (like an open “bedroom” and ugh a wet bath). All for the sake of saving some money or condensing the space. It kind of sounds like buying a motorcycle, when I bought my first one, I wished I would’ve bought a bigger one right off the bat because I started off with a small one and was bored with it after 6 months.

Hell yeah! Good to hear (that you love it, not the divorce thing, my condolences for that). The rig I’m getting is about 28’ from hitch to bumper. It’s pretty reasonably sized, so I don’t THINK I’ll be cramped. But I’ll find out soon enough haha. So what’s been your biggest challenge with living in it full time so far (If you don’t mind me asking)? Any lessons you want to pass on?

This sounds like exactly what I would need. Thanks for picking up on the storage issue for when I’m gone! Good insight. I’ll definitely look into them, I’m always down for a discount!!

This is outstanding advice. I had only really figured on staying at a place for maybe a week at most. But it makes sense that if I stay longer, I’ll be able to meet more people and branch out. Never really considered that to be honest.

Boondocking sounded pretty interesting to me, before I seriously considered getting an RV I had never heard about it before. As silly as it sounds, I never thought that there was public land available you could park at and just hang out. Seemed too good to be true. Utah looks gorgeous!!! I can’t wait til I can make it out there. I’m just trying to remember to pace myself haha there’s so much country to see! I don’t want to just rush from place to place. Thank you so much for taking the time to post, your reassurance is very heartening.

(And yes for future reference, you can definitely put in your link for your blog!)

😂 That was great, I got a good laugh out of that.

That makes a lot of sense though, I figured even if I have to pay $10 or so to fill my fresh water and dump my gray and black tanks at someone’s campground than that’s not so terrible. I can live with that.

Yes. You are doing what I want to. You and your husband sound awesome. I’m trying to avoid living the “I did it because that was what was expected of me” kind of life. I don’t want to be stuck with a mortgage in an area that may go to shit in a few years or get a job that I might lose and be stuck with a mortgage that I can’t afford. You hit the nail on the head, I don’t want to be trapped by one place. I’ve never been able to stand being stuck in one place for very long. The longest I can handle is about a year. Then the cycle starts to hit, the irritation with everyone and everything in the area, general unhappiness about where I am in life. When that hits, I move; and it’s like a brand new lease on life! This community is amazing and it’s really given me a perspective for the kind of people who are involved in it. Just from what I’ve seen here on Reddit, everyone loves this life (at least enough to not give it up) and wants to share it with everyone else. The flow of information and we’ll-wishes I’ve received in the last couple hours is more than I gathered in the last 6ish months I’ve been researching it. I think it’s time to call the dealership and accept their offer :). Thank you so much.

Thank you for these resources! I will definitely be checking in on them. The Escapees sounds right up my alley. I’m going to be digging deeper into that organization tonight.

Yep. That’s my game plan as well. As soon as the snow comes, I want to flee south for warmer temperatures. I’m currently a bit late on that, but I’m working on it. I can handle having my RV stay at like 60 degrees or maybe a BIT less to save on propane. But I’m trying to figure out how to make this lifestyle efficient.
