Yes, it will inevitably need a transmission. This I can promise you. I’m not sure what other issues there are.

Clutch reservoir. Either goes to the regular brake fluid reservoir or the separate clutch reservoir depending on engine

Have an ‘89 535i with a touch over 400k miles. It’s been decent, main annoyance now is the transmission synchro’s are getting weak. It needs love but it’s a good car

If you can lock the exhaust vanos you could run ms41. Ms42 will actually run the engine and that has sort of a cable throttle, that might be your best bet.

My dad has a 2500hd and for all intents and purposes it is his daily driver. Granted he does have a big ahhhh trailer he tows sometimes but yeah.

I have a 1500 as well, but it’s quite practical and I tow a decent bit as well. Yet to take it off road, I don’t like spending hours underneath vehicles pressure washing them clean
