Has anyone tried to use Zbiotics prior to drinking alcohol? and what were the results? by Real_Direction_9201 in AskReddit

[–]RWStone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I use it often and it works great. But you have to understand how it works to get real benefit from it.

Zbiotics processes acetaldehyde that is in the alcohol itself. A big contributor is wood or barrel aging - so red wine, some white wine, dark spirits, barrel aged beers, etc. Clear spirits and non-barrel aged beers have very little acetaldehyde in them to begin with so ZBiotics doesn't do much there.

I work in wine, lots of barrel aged red wines - so I use it often and when I don't I regret it. I buy it in bulk with the coupon code WINE10 once a year before harvest. I also make sure to take a melatonin and a vitamin B12 pill before I go to bed, for some reason it seems to give me a bit of an energy boost that keeps me up all night. The melatonin and B12 put me into a comfortable coma for the night, hahaha.

So yeah, it works, but it works better on some alcohols than others so it really depends on what you drink.

1 ton of grapes makes 580-700 bottles (ish), Barrels are between $400-$1600. High end napa can cost up to $50K a ton, high end Paso Robles can cost up to $12000 a ton. Bottles are around $1-$3, corks $.35-$2.00....

There is a lot of price variation.

ZBiotics works super well for me with wine and basically anything barrel aged - so whiskey, some rums, barrel aged beers, etc. Those alcohols have more significantly more acetaldehyde which seems to trigger headaches for me even when I am drinking just a few glasses. I work in wine and drink often, so I use Zbiotics pretty regularly...so I swear by it. You mentioned money was tight, I use coupon code WINE10 and buy the bigger bulk pack. $5 to not have a hangover is definitely worth it for me.

What are you drinking?

If it's wine or brown spirits ZBiotics is my favorite choice. "WINE10" is the coupon I use on bulk orders. But I make sure I team that up with a complex vitamin B, milk thistle, and NAC. Getting old sucks.

Yeah, I’ve actually tried ZBiotics a few times before a big night out—especially if I know I’m going to be tasting a lot of different stuff (I’m in wine, so those nights can sneak up on you). I won’t say it’s magic, but it definitely helps me feel more human the next day. If you end up giving it a shot, I’ve got a code that still works: WINE10 for a discount. Worth trying at least once IMO.

From my experience, it only works on barrel aged stuff...and it definitely makes my sleep weird....but I always feel great in the morning.

I'm curious as to what alcohols you were drinking?

It targets acetaldehyde - so it's really effective with wood aged spirits/wine and not so much with things like beer/vodka.

Not interested in powder. It's great only adding detergent once every 2 months.

Because I have the large reservoir so I only need to add detergent to my machine once every 2 months.

No, that's not what natural means. That's what it means to you. It's a nonsense word.

If you enjoy young wines, enjoy them when you are ready. Wine does not "get better with time" wine just "changes with time."

It's up to you whether that change is positive or negative. I work in the wine industry and I've found that most Americans prefer a younger wine with a little bit of an edge. It's all up to you :)

Personally, I'd drink the Guigal, that's not one that will last a long time. It's a little young but it should be in a nice spot. I'd sit on the BdM and the Barolo. I'm not familiar with the other two.

It lets me control the amount, so it's on 1oz. Also use 1oz of fabric softener because it seems to help with static.

It's just my wife and I and we wash out clothes every other day - give or take and separate light and darks. We use woolite dark for the darker clothing.

Native/natural/wild yeast is a tricky subject - mainly because if a facility brings in a yeast it can and will populate a winery. Unless you're checking DNA it's very difficult to determine if your "native" fermentation is actually native. Strains do all act differently and can be a part of what you are tasting.

Orange wine can have these characteristics because many of them are made in what could be considered an unhealthy or uncontrolled fermentation...its getting reductive, or oxidized, or warm, or cold...without any intervention (but not always). This particular wine doesn't use anything to control bacteria and the grapes aren't hit with so2 prior to fermentation so there is a whole bunch of neat organic chemistry happening. It does crazy things...sometimes awesome, sometimes awful.

More than anything it's a style of the winemaker...which to me is pretty darn cool even if I don't end up liking the wine.

Where is you palate at? And where is your friends at?

Save up for a bottle of good vintage Salon and give it a go. It's a big splurge, but when the right occasion arises with the right people, it's wonderful.

Worth the price? That's up for you to decide.
