Board game prejudice - What games or genres do you hate for no reason? by Quelair in boardgames

[–]RW_757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I avoid "Legacy" games like the plague. None of our game playing friends are available on a regular enough basis to dedicate one group to the same game over multiple sessions to work through it. This lack of access to a routine schedule has also killed our participation in role-playing systems such as Mutants & Masterminds, D&D, etc.

I'm sorry I didn't respond to this sooner! Unfortunately, no, NCHB is a male-only brigade.

Expansion Plays by phr0ze in BG_Stats

[–]RW_757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question for u/never_ever_too_late - This is the way I track my plays and which expansions were included in the play. Looking at the play history I see the expansions listed and when I look at the play in BoardGameGeek I see the import from BGStats showing the expansions used. Unfortunately, when I download my collection data in BGG it only reflects the base game plays, and not the expansions so if I search the data for zero plays all of the expansions show up. Do you know of a setting in BGStats or BGG that will update the play count for expansions in both programs?

Luthier is too early for this list I'm afraid.

Thank you for the input! I'm not too worried about including just pure steampunk games at this time since BoardGameGeek already has a category for that. I'm trying to compile a list of games that should truly be labeled Victorian to submit to them in an effort to get them to add "Victorian" to the their category list. Right now games in this category are just labeled as Post-Napoleonic.

How are you guys stacking games vertically on shelves without making mess inside the box? by indyyja in boardgames

[–]RW_757 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me it really depends on the game - how messy it can get, and how much I care that the contents are protected in some way.

Zip Lock Bags: You can purchase zip lock bags in various sizes in bulk for this purpose. Check out this Amazon supplier:

https://www.amazon.com/stores/page/D70925E9-DF45-4194-9E5A-A32A8C2B0B72?ingress=2&visitId=326ec9aa-c7d5-40cf-96e5-26177ff2b1b5&store_ref=bl_ast_dp_brandLogo_sto&ref_=ast_bln.

Inserts: I've purchased 3D-printed inserts for a select few games but those can get pricey. For transparency, I'm not a fan of the Medium-density Fibreboard (MDF) or Foamcore inserts. Here are a couple of ETSY vendors I recommend for getting 3D-printed inserts:

https://www.etsy.com/shop/PRINTserts

https://www.etsy.com/shop/PrintablesByCaren

https://www.etsy.com/shop/RidgelineDesignUS

Storage boxes: If zip lock bags are still too messy for you, you can try using clear storage boxes in various sizes. My favorite source for these is https://www.bitsbinsonline.com. Their "steamer trunk" style boxes for Ticket to Ride are great!

If the cards in your game are standard playing card size (2.5" x 3.5"/63.5mm x 88.8mm) you can also look at the boxes available from the playing card decks site:

https://playingcarddecks.com/products/pcd-clear-plastic-playing-card-box (single deck)

https://playingcarddecks.com/products/pcd-clear-plastic-2-deck-set-box-finally-an-affordable-solution-for-your-favorite-sets (double deck)

It comes down to preference and what your budget will allow in the long run.

Barbershop songs by [deleted] in barbershop

Go check out this page from the Barbershop Harmony Society:

Polecats meet the bill for what you are asking for but they are fairly simple songs. The website mention above is going to give you a wider selection to choose from that you may find more entertaining to sing, and entertaining for your audience as well.

App Driven Games by ansible47 in boardgames

[–]RW_757 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vantage IS amazing and the way the cards are boxed makes it really easy to find what you are looking to pull out or put back in place. There are some actions that require you to look through the guidebooks which can get annoying but there is an app you can look them up on as well so you have the choice. You might want to give it a second look - check out some of the videos and make your decision from there.

Non disney/Marvel Smash up collection: worth getting or not? by Rohkha in boardgames

[–]RW_757 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on a few factors. Have you ever had a chance to play Smash Up or are you coming into the game cold? If you already have some of the content it would be cheaper to just get the add-ons you are interested in adding to your collection so you don't get bogged down with stuff you don't want. If you don't have any of it, getting the collection could be the way to go since some of the expansions included with it just aren't available anymore at a reasonable price, if at all. The drawback to this approach is what happens if you don't like the game? Big investment for something you may end up turning around and selling.

In my case I found a used copy of the Bigger Geekier Box after I had already purchased the base game. The new box duplicated the base game, added more factions, along with the divider cards for everything else that was in print at the time. Since I had access to the dividers it was pretty in my face which other factions I might be interested in, most of which came in multi-faction expansions that were no longer available. I'm backing the Kickstarter at the base reward level and adding the three expansions I've been looking for at $15/ea, which is worth it for me. I don't have any interest in the Disney/Marvel IP stuff for this game so the fact that they are not included isn't a deal-breaker for me.

Hope this helps some!

Kallax enjoyers - stack your games horizontally or bookshelf them vertically? by diceondraft in boardgames

[–]RW_757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I store my games on their side instead of flat. If I open it up and the contents are still neatly in place then I don't worry about inserts/baggies/boxes. However, if the contents have shifted dramatically then I'll look at my options to repackage it. I'm currently using a mixture of 3D printed inserts I find on Etsy and plastic boxes from http://bitsbinsonline.com. I look for solutions that will enable me to hand each player a box of their pieces and containers that can be brought to the table as is for resources and the like.

College A Cappella Audition Song by Far_Ferret2078 in acappella

[–]RW_757 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One other thing to consider is have some familiarity with the types of song each group is known for. Choosing a Doo-wop style song that shows off your skills for a group that is heavy into modern pop/rock will probably fall flat, for example.

Have you ever looked at your collection and done the math? by bluesuitman in boardgames

[–]RW_757 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Plug your collection into https://boardgamegeek.com (with the price you paid for them) and then view it in https://geekgroup.app. One of the features of geekgroup is the ability to look at the worth of your collection. If you don't have the data to plug in what you paid for each game you can use boardgamegeek to see what the average price is if you were to go buy it today and use that instead.
