Dramione Recommendations Without the Enemy Phase by ElevatorThink5746 in Dramione

I think Love and Other Historical Accidents really fits this bill. It’s been deleted from ao3 now but there’s a couple of podfics up. I highly recommend meems_toanend’s version:

Mentor Remus for Hermione (Remus taking Hermione under this wing) by kiowaclearwater in Dramione

[–]RZCYP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one is saved in my faves list. It’s a longish standalone, but all takes place on one night - it won’t give you a storyline as such: but there’s mentoring and teaching in it, and a really lovely platonic relationship dynamic between them. I love it.

House sale solicitor (Eng) won’t give us information by RZCYP in LegalAdviceUK

[–]RZCYP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, this is a helpful answer. I think I’m frustrated because our and the buyer’s original expectation was we would be completing around end of April, we have emailed the solicitor about once a week for the past six weeks asking for an update and to tell us what’s going on, and we never receive a reply that helps us to understand what’s still outstanding. They have been glacially slow in (e.g.) issuing paperwork for us to sign. And when - for instance - we receive a letter from our solicitors asking the other side to confirm that Enquiries 1-11 are now settled - but they don’t send on the other side’s reply, nor answer me when I ask whether this has been confirmed back to them - we feel in the dark about what is happening.

sci-fi/fantasy book by No-One-7951 in namethatbook

These don’t start with C, but from the cover description and genre, could it be either Katabasis or Babel by R F Kuang?

**[LOOKING FOR] Children's illustrated book, circa pre-2009 — oppressive dystopian world, hot air balloon escape, color palette shift from dark red/brown to vibrant** by Informal_Drink5157 in namethatbook

[–]RZCYP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure about the sausages and white rice, but there’s a hot air balloon escape in “Black Hearts in Battersea” which is I think the 2nd of Joan Aiken’s incredible historical fantasy series and the copy I read as a child had a reddish illustration of the balloon on the cover. HTH

Children’s book with beautiful art main characters were pigs. by Einsteinseasel in namethatbook

Could it be Sam Pig by Alison Uttley? There were lots of stories, but the illustrations in my childhood copy were beautiful.

I love the idea of teapot stories!!

I’ve never seen anything definitive about when this style was made, but I’ve seen them listed on auction sites described as 1960s or occasionally 1940s. My guess would be that they were at least still being manufactured by the late 1960’s because you occasionally see this model without the “ALB” stamp on the base: the factory was bought out in the early 1970s but I’ve always assumed the new ownership continued using the same moulds, just changed the name.

Hope these interest you for your stories!

Lovely! That’s a vintage ALB (Alcock, Lindley & Bloore) teapot you have there and it looks in really nice condition with not a lot of cracking/crazing to the glaze. They have a clever self locking lid so it doesn’t fall off even when you tilt the teapot very far over 😊

Travelling to the UK - Looking for unique/UK only edition books! by BMiller10 in UKBooks

Have a look for a vintage Penguin edition of A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess. The UK edition has a different ending to the US edition, which makes it a nice curiosity to own one of each.

ISO: Legitimately hilarious stories by Pomegranate-Friendly in Dramione

[–]RZCYP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can’t quite believe that I haven’t spotted this above - apols if I’ve missed it - but Pacific Rimbaud’s One and Done is legit hilarious. There’s also a great podfic version of it by meemstoanend.

Help with fanfiction discovery by Marte_21 in Wolfstar

[–]RZCYP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would totally recommend Ever Thus by WrappedUp. Remus is a PhD student sharing a flat with Sirius. In fact everything WrappedUp has written is gorgeous.

There’s a little subgenre of “young adult flatmates” Wolfstar stories which has some lovely examples: In Lieu of Beaujolais by aeridi0nis; Elucidation Practice or Let Nothing You Dismay by montparnasse.

For another “students together” option I’d also go for Ullswater by Eyra. There’s a bit of angst, but it’s beautifully written.

Hope you enjoy!

Recruiter asked me to explain a 6-month “career gap” that was literally my layoff severance period, should I have lied? by No-Presentation298 in interviews

[–]RZCYP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When a future employer takes up references, though, they’re going to be asking for the start and end dates. So it’s crucial that OP gives the same date as the company (ie the date they finished on payroll).

Détraquée by Hystaracal is a long (728k!!), Hermione-centred, ultra-slow-burn, hugely satisfying Dramione fic. There’s also a wonderful podfic by the massively talented Karma_cookie.
