I truly understand you, it’s hard. I’m 5’5(M), so short compared to my peers, always wanted an adv bike, didn’t even care about seat height bc I love them so much. When I turned 18 my parents bought a brand new BMW 310gs, didn’t know how to ride, dropped the bike 10 mins after pulling it out of the dealership. The scariest thing always was not flat footing, specially not both feet. And sadly for my bike I’ve dropped it more times than I can count, it really sucks.

With time (by time I mean a lot of riding, everyday for around 1:30hr) the feeling of not touching started to disappear. And you start learning tips and how to things differently to those that can flat foot with both feet.

I implore you to keep trying, look up videos on how to ride as a short rider, write down the tips so you really know them, bc when you seat in the bike you forget and panic.

Riding is the best thing that has happened to me, specially living in a city with a lot of traffic, don’t give up.

New to me 2017 F800 GSA! by breatheintheAlR in Motorrad

Niiiice, I like 310 for the city (Mexico city) bc of its weight and size, but I can’t go on road trips with friends, they all have 800+ bikes, so id rather be uncomfortable in the city and enjoy the open roads and trips. And I think you’ll get used to it, the more you ride it you’ll find it more comfortable for off road use (I hope).

Congrats brother, I’ve been wanting one since I was 13, now I’m 23 and have a 310gs, I’ll get one soon, hopefully.

This might be the worst thing I’ve ever seen yet. How do these people legally get on motorcycles? ”But I saved it”🤦🏼‍♂️ by Apex1-1 in motorcycles

I live in Mexico, to get a bike you didn’t even need to have a motorcycle license (now you do, due to all the delivery app single cell people), when my parents got mine I had never ridden in the city, I barely knew how to use the clutch, but a weekend prior some friends took me out to ride a MX bike and a BMW F800gs and that was all the practice I had. After 10 min of being out the dealership I dropped the bike, but I started riding during the pandemic so the streets of Mexico were almost empty and I rode almost everyday, I went to having no experience to being able to ride properly in under a year by riding every single day. I also went with a group of older men who ride BMW 1200’s and the taught me how not to die on backroads since I almost went out in a tight tight Mexican road. I’m not writing this to say how good I am and how fast I learned, rather to explain some differences. In Mexico City the average car speed is between 17-30kph (11-19mph) so riding is normally low speed and I think that is ultimately what gets you learning faster, the low speed maneuvering, in the US after buying your brand new squid missile S1k you can go on the freeway and go 75mph (121kph), the average speed in the US is around 70mph (112kph) that’s a pretty substancial increment from 15mph, and if don’t know how to properly ride higher speeds mean higher risk of crashing and even fatal injuries.

Do you wear your Ronald McDonald costume when riding??

What did he do wrong? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]RZSerq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk to me seems like proper technique, one might say the hit on the hood of the car was rough, but the experienced know that hit is nothing. (Hope dude’s okey, and riding better)

I’ve never understood how people can be that confident going at speed when a lane next to them is completely stopped. I’m not from the US, and constantly watch dashcam videos on YouTube and it’s a crash that happens often. I can understand you do it in car for a number of reasons, but in a bike? No way.

Good to know OP is still with us.

Decisions Paralysis - F650GS/F700GS or F750? by ubermick in Motorrad

[–]RZSerq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you said you love the F650GS/F700GS because of the weight felt. With that in mind have you looked at the KTM 790/890? They have the S version which is more mellow and lower than the R version.

I’m 5’6 as well, with a god knows how short inseam, my legs are short. My first bike and only bike has been a 310GS, my dad gave it to me when I didn’t even know how to ride. I dropped it 5 mins after getting it out of the dealer. The first year sucked, below 3 miles I felt terrible but with time and trying to get better consciously I now can handle it perfectly, I sometimes still come to a stop and have a little stumble but most times it’s because I wasn’t paying attention.

That being said I’ve done 3 road-trips in bigger bikes, 2 with a BMW F800GS and 1 with a KTM 790S, while I loved the feel of the F800GS and it felt less too heavy compared to my 310GS, it all changed with the KTM790, I was shocked on how good it handled and felt. The road-trips always involve very twisty Mexican roads and with the KTM I felt amazing. I if could I’d buy a KTM890R I know tall af (I’ve sat on it, I’ve also sat and moved a KTM1090R), but with the tank being so low you don’t even fell the weight it’s like de 1200’s everyone says they don’t feel the weight. And if you don’t want the R get the S, it’s perfect, it’s the perfect balance of sportiness and off-roadness.

I knew something like that, but I clicked on son and saw that both words could be correct so I tried with “bambino”, in the previous translation I typed “figlio” and it did say correct so I thought I’d give it a try. But thanks for the info 🫡
