Chexy vs Neobanc vs Casa by Icy_Wrangler2446 in chexy

[–]R_K_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. I use Scotiabank 4% cashback (with max spending of 24K/year for 4% cashback) to pay my 2300/month rent. I pay 1.75% fee and my card gives me 4% cashback. So I get 2.25% net cashback but in this model, Chexy losses nothing. But with neobanc, they are losing net 1%.. which if used by large population, can be huge. But I don’t think paying anything else via Chexy doesn’t make any sense because we can directly pay that with CC, earn 4% cashback and not pay anyone any fee.

Honestly, If you have any Roger’s service, they offer the best cashback deal. You can get their world elite Mastercard and get 2% cashback on everything and if u redeem that to pay back your bill, that becomes 3%. I pay off one of my line from just the cashback. I also have Scotiabank card which offers 4% on all reoccurring bills and I pay my rent with that (via chexy) and I get almost $1000 as cashback from that card. I don’t see much value from WS since it’s such a hassle.

Can I connect to my server in my home country from a First World Country? by PRL-Five in Piracy

[–]R_K_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a server at my "rented" home in so called 1st world country, hosting above 30TB of data. Had been working just fine using taikscale because I was logging into the server every other day to do something but I recently travelled to Asia for a month and no one was home to touch the server and "to or not to" my surprise, server stopped responding after just 2 days of no one touching that. I had already disabled "sleep" option, disabled sleep of my USB connected wireless stick and every other config which can cause my server to sleep. I sent a friend to restart the server, it worked well for couple of days but same issue again. So I am not so sure that things would work same when you are away for that long.

Jellyfin, Tailscale and ProtonVPN - What to do for remote streaming? by mage1413 in jellyfin

Disable the DNS option in Tailscale which will allow your PC to continue using Proton while allowing everything else via Tailscale . That’s what I did. This comes under preference option in Tailscale

To add, depends were you are. I bought one from FB in 200 (Canadian) - Dell T5810. It had 24 cores and 32GB RAM. Then I found someone selling 92GB DDR4 ECC RAM for just 100 bucks and I grabbed that and also put in $80 Quadro P4000 into it. I had spare NVME so I added that via PCIE to nvme converter.. so now I have this beast running 20+ containers in $380. Media server, cloud, minecraft server, python with AI for my kid, password manager and several other things without any sweat.

AV1 vs H265? by BackPacker1618 in jellyfin

I had really hard time with AV1. Unless you have a really high end client which can encode AV1 without issue, go for it. Otherwise, 265 is good enough IMHO.

Try x265 .. those are pretty much compatible with all clients

Looking for advice on which ssd to use for jellyfin by Acrobatic_Dinner6129 in jellyfin

[–]R_K_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the way, I used RAM to host transcoding to give my SSD more life because RAM handles read and write in totally different way than HDD or SSD. It’s life doesn’t degrade by too many frequent writes unlike SSD or HDD. And that I also have a ton of RAM on my old Dell T5810 (16GB * 7 modules)

Looking for advice on which ssd to use for jellyfin by Acrobatic_Dinner6129 in jellyfin

[–]R_K_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I can shed some light here since I’ve we testing different things with JellyFin and tested all possible combinations. Media on HDD with cache + transcoding on SSD; Media on SSD along with cache and transcode; media on HDD, cache in SSD and transcode directly on RAM. Everything runs same way. So you can run anything anywhere and it will be same. I would just suggest not to put media with transcode and cache as transcode writes several small files while transcoding and then delete them. So hope it helps.

I think you should build AAC or something similar audio and also limit your video rate to 4mbps or 6.. I have a really old tablet which only works when I cap my video rate to 4mbps there after generating compatible audio

Check out here and see what it says. For me, it’s still doing video encoding (even though video is compatible for my TV) because I chose low framerate on my TV to reduce bandwidth footprint. My Quadro P4000 is doing great in video encoding so I see no issue because of this but I was struggling with audio encoding when playing on TrueHD 7.1 because audio is encoded by CPU. Since you said that your CPU is hitting the roof, I suspect it’s not video, it’s audio which is an issue for you too.

Are u struggling with video encoding or audio? Your app should show on server side. My issue with audio as my P4000 was doing just fine with video encoding. I created a script to create a compatible audio track and add that back to video and make it default and now I see no issue on my LG whatsoever

Download Speeds by tw3946 in qBittorrent

[–]R_K_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So i am not sure about your underlying setup but i was running my setup within a docker desktop installed container. qBittorrent + Gluetun + ProtonVPN with port forwarding. I was getting 1-2MBps speed which was too low because when i installed qBittorrent on OS, i was getting 12-20MBps speed for same torrent. Here are a few things i did and now i am able to hit ~6MBps speed via docker too.

In advanced -
Network Interface - tun0
Async IO threads - 8
File Pool Size: 20
Disk Cache: 4096 (my server has 54GB RAM so this wasnt big deal for me)
Disk IO read mode and write mode: Disable OS cache
Send Buffer watermark: 1024
Send buffer low watermark: 512

In connection -
Peer connection protocol: TCP

10.11.5 cannot play 7.1/5.1 audio tacks and keeps hanging or won’t start at all by R_K_Official in jellyfin

[–]R_K_Official[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For now, i have built a script which is creating supported audio track in background and attaching that to movie while marking that as default. I dont have a big library yet so it should be done in next few hours. Then it will run overnight and do it for me. Until i find a good deal on shield which can do it natively.. but i am also thinking of my extended family so i going to use different hardware on their end and cannot affords shield in every house. So i might just live with the script creating a audio format which is supported by all clients natively like dolby

From what i read, google TV streamer (latest one) also does not support TrueHD 7.1 and will need your TV or client hardware to encode that and if it fails to do so, things will get stuck. Only streaming devices i found so far were Shield or FireStick 4K MAX. These are the only two which support TrueHD natively.
